Cafe Thyme is set in a stunning location, overlooking rolling paddocks giving way to views of the sea, and beyond that to Mull. It is a minutes drive up a well maintained, single track lane, ending in a well sized parking area. From this elevated position the views are sublime, on what was for us, a cloudless, warm, sunny day. There is a large grassed play area, with an assortment of toys for younger children to use, as well as interactive activities for the kids, such as Duplo blocks. There is outdoor seating available too, which was all good quality furniture. Dogs seemed to be welcome. Entrance is gained by passing the front of the cafe and turning right up access steps to the rear, which was slightly confusing as people also seemed to use an access door located nearest the car park side of the cafe. The interior of the cafe is smart, uncluttered and comfortable. Again, there are panoramic views across the distant water. As vegetarians, we were offered plenty of choice from a classy menu, and the Greek salads with pitta breads we selected were fresh, plentiful and delicious. The price was appropriate for the quality of the food. The staff were smart, polite, and welcoming, and exuded a professional, but relaxed, air. The loos were modern and clean. In summary, the location is wonderful, the staff, food and prices excellent, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it based on our experience. Incidentally, there are adjoining shops at the Byre selling clothes and shoes, both...

I have mixed feelings about this place. I would almost give it 4 stars. It's on the less travelled side of the isle and not very well sign posted. It may be more suitable for parents with kids as they have a sizeable play area. It's nice inside but me and my wife thought it was very bare. I was expecting it to be cosy, but it lacks character. Maybe it's fairly new and they're still working on it? Everything is echoing off the bare walls. The young folk serving us looked as if they didn't want to be there - don't get me wrong they were polite, but looked as if someone forced them to be there. Or maybe they were just tired. I know it's hard work working in a restaurant. Maybe a couple more staff members would make a difference? However, there was also a woman dealing with us and other customers and she was absolutely brilliant. The food was to die for and I'm not joking. I really enjoyed it. I would recommend this place for the food alone as it was a very good experience. The building inside and out, well, it needs work in my opinion. One of the pictures there with the ramp shows the main entrance. I will definietly come back to see how/if it's...

I didn’t like the restaurant for several reasons. The staff is a bit impolite and it looks it is working just to make you a favour (and I am not the only one saying so among the reviewers on the web). It took them 7 minutes less than one hour (from 14:05 to 14:58) to prepare our meals even though there were 10 tables occupied during that lunch time. Tailoring the number of the staff people on the maximum number of allowed customers should be a must for a restaurant business. Also, although I don’t eat salty at all, the pittas were tasteless due to a serious lack of salt (no matter if there is salt on the table as salt on top cannot compensare the lack of salt in the dough). In general food is nothing special. Finally, prices are very high compared to the average...

I love it when you stumble upon a hidden gem! We came on a wet day for the visitor centre which isn’t really a visitor centre. The kids immediately saw the play area - grown ups beware if you are on a budget you do have to pay £3 per child to play. I did not mind paying that at all to support a small independent business plus it is very clean, very well maintained and lots to do! We ended up going into the cafe to warm up and had lunch. Massive choice of tea. All the food was fresh and home made and very very delicious! Very impressed with the food and would definitely come back.
