Sorry to say this, but the Canton should be renamed to" Reheat Palace". We went in tonight for a meal after work, heard some good things and had high expectations, but. Well. It started with the starters and as they came out to the table, the anticipation of a quality meal sank rapidly. We had ordered mixed starter for two. Two bamboo steamer dishes came out filled, well when I say filled, six sorry looking pieces, two very small samosa that had been reheated, two tiny spring rolls also reheated a crab claw and a single burnt reheated rib. It wasn’t until the bill came at the end that I realised this was actually 2 portion, so that would have been three tiny pieces as a starter each, mmm not impressive But lets continue the spare ribs were obviously reheated, burnt would have been a more accurate description in fact parts were black. Left that, samosa reheat and showing signs of the need of CPR , spring roll reheat accompanied with a sweet chilly dip sauce, to be honest I could have got more for better value from Iceland. actually i’m not sure this wasn’t straight from the freezer section of a local supermarket then deep fried two or three times, awful. So half of the starters were left in the basket. remeber this was two portion so cost a pretty penny 0-1/10 Then the main meals sweet & sour chicken, kung pao and a mixed satay The satay was very good the sauce wasn’t to thick and had a nice Chile kick to it. Prawns were nice chicken, good and nice big pieces. Beef was a bit tough, standard selection of veg overall 6/10 The chicken kung pao was sweet but nice to the taste good mix of veg and meat. 6/10 the sweet and sour chicken in batter well again the chicken was reheated. The sauce was pretty standard and no one could tell the difference between the kung pao and the sweet & sour sauces apart from a slight colour difference. 5/10. Really these dishes were costing £10-£12 and were of their main menu, very poor. For that sort of money I expect freshly cooked food not a pile of reheated Burnt offerings That and a coffee when I say coffee, instant coffee and NOT a premium brand instant. I walked away really disappointed This was not a good dinning experience. Todays market i expect decent freshly cooked food, i went in not expecting cordon bleu cooking. But to dish this rubbish up shows that they obviously have little respect for their customers. Other than that the service was pleasant and quick the surroundings very smart and clean, but the food come on, ditch last nights left overs don’t reserve them to the next shmucks who happen through the door. I’ve a feeling that if we had arrived an hour later we would have been served better, but that doesn’t matter. Food should always be freshly cooked, no second hand reheats should ever be served up to paying customers. Very...
Read moreThis review is for a takeaway meal from The Canton.
When we arrived it was very busy but our order was taken very quickly by a very friendly lady.
Here's what we ordered, photos added too:
Chicken Noodle soup - 8/10. Plenty of chicken and not too greasy.
Beef curry - 9/10. Beef was great quality, sauce was nice, just slightly salty. Fried rice was perfect.
Chicken balls - 8/10. Sweet and sour sauce was amazing according to my wife. Chicken balls had just a bit too much batter and not enough chicken.
Salt and chilli chicken wings - 10/10. Perfect batter, nice and crispy and very tasty.
Will...
Read moreI’m usually not the type to take time out my day to write negative reviews but i’m that appalled with what i have paid for. The total order was £16 for a chicken chow mein , salt and chilli chips and a portion of curry sauce which already gave me red flags but when i went to plate my meal & found my chips to be wet & soggy and completely devoid of any flavour and the CHICKEN chow mein that costs around £8, to have more mushroom than chicken and even at that the chicken pieces were so minuscule that i hardly noticed them. Disgraceful. I have had better and expect better from...
