I really wish I could give this review 0 stars for the service we received. We decided to dine in however before we even got in we were shouted at to wait, no manners at all, however there was no sign to let us know we were suppose to cue or wait to be seated. After we sat down we were rushed to order our food, I understand we were in 30 minutes before the kitchen shuts however there were no manners and we were again spoken to in a very rude way. After ordering only ONE drink we heard all the staff complaining and talking about us - the waitress then slammed my glass infront of me. Continued to get horrible looks over at us, making us feel so so uncomfortable!! The food was amazing!! Really enjoyed the food. As we were eating the floor was then mopped before we had even got up. This made my friend feel nervous to walk over the floor incase she slipped and fell!! As we asked for the bill the lady snatched the bill and we were then questioned as to why we looked “frightened”. We were then hassled about our choice of payment and then as we left we were spoke about and laughed. SPECIAL SPECIAL THANK YOU TO CHRISTINA!!! She brought our food out to us and also said she hoped we had a...

The sccabbiest place in Scotland and quite possibly the worst service hotly followed by the worst food. I think the good reviews are written by staff and friends.

Ordered a cheeseburger and chips. Not a complicated item. Much was made of do we want bacon and cheese (yes please to both), salt and vinegar on chips (selection advised). All of this through an unwelcoming serving hatch, with customers breathing and sweating over the ice cream in the freezer below.

First time round, chips (no salt and vinegar), burgers with the wrong toppings. Eventually the burger was offered with hard as rock bacon and no cheese. After complaining again i was given two cartons of freshly grated cheese (nice touch). They did offer to make them again but was tired of waiting. Burger was dry , so was bread.

The outside seating area seats had paint peeling off, seat sections totally loose (fell off the bench twice when i was at table), bins overflowing.

The toilets had no lights, so everyone needs their phone torch. I didn't dare use the loo, but had to venture in to fill the dog bowl I brought with me.

To be avoided.

I gave an extra mark for ambiance as the views...

Refused service because we were "too late", yet others were about to be served.

Visiting a friend and she takes me round because their cakes are superb. We've been before, never had any bother. This time we spent a moment looking at the Glamping pods they're putting in round back and see people going in to the cafe. This is a place that's out the way and you have to make the effort to visit.

We go in and my friend takes a seat. I take a moment to see what cakes they have as it's just cake and coffee we're looking for. Young man approaches and explains they stop seating at 4:30, but we can have takeaway if we want. Are you absolutely sure that we can't have a seat? He gets out his phone and it just turns 4:32.

There are the others who just got in before us waiting and they'll be served. We were offered take-away but refused seated service. There was no reason why they couldn't have accommodated us.

Thankfully, returning to Rothesay we found somewhere else happy to serve excellent cake and much better coffee (Ettrick Bay always...

We loved this place but I'm giving a mixed review on the food.. The soup was great but the cheese toastie was dire. I'm not sure how you can not make a good toasties I've made and eaten lots with different types of cheese including the singles cheese slices, but never had a toastie so flavourless 😕. The milk with the tea was a very generous amount, and the lemon meringue cheesecake looked amazing but sadly only saw it on my way out! (next time!) But the real charm about this place is it's 1970s coffee shop feel.. And menu, and the VIEW! MY advice would be to reduce the menu options and just do less things very well.

So great to see the cafe has new life! My first time since these new owners and definitely a WONDERFUL part (again) of going to Ettrick Bay ! Their sweet/dessert selection was amazing and they have a fantastic lunch menu. Lovely vibe when you walk in, friendly staff greeting people immediately, music playing, staff buzzing around with smiles and delicious food coming out of the kitchen! Bus stops right out front, directly on the beach with phenomenal views of Isle of Arran , indoor & outdoor seating plus take away

I love this place, looking out over beautiful Ettrick Bay towards Arran. You can't beat the location! The food is great, no-nonsense, no-frills and I love that tea comes in a mug and coffee choice is either instant or bean (Costa and Starbucks's choice completely overwhelms me). The team who work there are lovely. It's dog friendly too. The building could probably do with a bit of TLC but it's part of what it is and why we have such fondness for it
