Edit: Thank you for responding. First of all, in no way was I aggressive nor did I shout at anyone, at any point.
The first staff member who delivered the take away scone to my table was asked about the prefabricated nature of the pancakes. My response to his information was “Well that explains why they taste like vulcanised rubber” It was at this point you had your first opportunity to do something, he could have let you know that there was someone not particularly happy with their food.
A pancake is either fresh, or made that morning - it can’t be both those things. They’re not an overly complex dish and should be able to be cooked to order. I’m also not referring to the fat on the bacon, but the white scum that indicates low grade wet cured bacon that has been cooked and left to sit.
Just acknowledge it isn’t good enough as a price/proposition and do better rather than trying to shift the issues on to someone providing you feedback.
Let’s start with the positives - coffee is quite good and the cheese scone works as well.
However, Pancakes with Bacon & Maple syrup was heinous. How can you justify charging £12 for a prefab breakfast of extremely low quality. When the plate arrived, the first warning was the white scum on the bacon - a sure sign it’s been sitting in a warmer. The pancakes looked ok, but again, the rubbery texture and lukewarm temperature indicated prefabrication. I asked the waiter if they had been cooked in the last 5 minutes - “Oh no, they’re just cooked once per day” (or presumably until that supply is exhausted and another batch is done) Given the place had only been open for about 15 minutes by that point, this is a joke. Drowning the pancakes in “maple syrup” made them edible, but the bacon was disgusting and abandoned.

Read moreWe decided to pop in for lunch after a Saturday walk in Evanton woods. My wife had been before but it was my first visit. My expectations were high as if heard good things about the place.
On arrival the first thing that struck me was how busy it was, which I took as a good sign. We were quickly shown to a table and the fact that it was packed didn't seem to be phasing the staff, there was no sense of panic or unseemly rush, just friendly, efficient welcome. Just to highlight, the staff were excellent throughout.
We decided to go for main meals rather than just soup or light lunch and between us we had fish and chips, the Highland Farm burger and Mac & Cheese. In the interests of a complete review I tried everyone else's too!
The food was great. The fish was lovely with a nice batter, not too greasy. The tartare sauce was a cut above cafe standard. Big hand cut chips. The beef and haggis burger was plenty big. All too often where you see that on the menu the haggis plays a very minor role, but here it made a solid contribution in terms of both taste and texture. The tomato chutney and garlic mayo complimented the burger and kept the whole dish from seeming dry, which can easily happen. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, perfect comfort food. If I order it for myself next time I'll pay the extra to add black pudding as that sounds like a winning combination.
The views over the Cromarty Firth are first class and it's nice to see beers from the local breweries both on the menu and for sale in the shop. There is even and EV charging point in the car park.
Definitely worth a visit and there are a lot of other temptations on the menu I...
Read moreHaving enjoyed the culinary delights of the Highland Farm Cafe before, I decided to partake of their offerings once again. Being busy, friday lunch, we were taken to the waiting area and offered menus to peruse the wares on offer while we waited to be seated. Did not have to wait too long before being offered a table. Our waitress was jovial and welcomimg and took our order, food + drinks. This is where standards started to slip. I ordered a latte which arrived in reasonable time. Unfortunately it was not as hot as it should have been and I had drunk it by the time the meal arrived, roughly 10 mins. When the meal arrived I asked if I was due a free top up as I had finished my latte. I was told, jovially, it was not a competition, which I accepted in good spirits and ordered a fresh one. This is where the 2 star rating comes from. I had finished my meal before the latte arrived. I was fizzing. Suggestion. As hot drinks are served way ahead of the food. Re-orders should be given priority. You should not have to wait for people who have just sat down to be dealt with first. My main meal...
