Unplanned stop at Glencaple lunchtime on Tuesday 11th June desperate for a bite to eat. Only two places to eat in village the other was full to the gunnels so we had no option but to give the Nith hotel a try. In fairness, hotel looks underwhelming from the outside and the entrance from the car park at the rear even more so, a bit like entering the Marie Celeste. Eventually came across some humans dining in an area with a nice view out to the river Nith. We were eventually greeted by a bubbly member of staff who took me and my better half to a table with a selection of menus to peruse. We opted for a lite bite of toasties, fries and tea which came with complimentary short bread and chocolate mints. Food was delicious and the service was faultless. The main meals brought out for other customers looked scrummy. All in all we were pleasantly surprised with our lunchtime experience. That said, I have no doubt the Nith hotel is well known and used by it's local clientele but for passing trade it could do more to make the premises more inviting from the outside. The entrance at the rear could be better signed especially from the roadside and some hanging baskets (just a suggestion) at or near the rear entrance would be pleasing on the eye and might help to draw people in. Online reviews for the Nith hotel seem to be very good but I do feel more could done to make it...
Read moreOnly came for dinner. So cannot comment on anything else other than the restaurant but I could not recommend it enough! Amazing dinner, almost faultless.
The restaurant dining area is modern, tables clean. The view from the dining area is absolutely stunning. The food we had for starter and main was almost faultless. I had the sweet chilli chicken for main and my partner the mac cheese. We both loved it. If I HAD to criticise, then I would say there was a bit too much sauce but, luckily enough, I am a sauce kinda guy! The nachos we had also... I know I know, simple dish, but, very often you order them from restaurants and we always find they get it wrong in terms of balance. Ingredients not fresh, too much cheese, too much sauce, too much salsa etc... this was perfect. The right amount of cheese, tasty cheese too. The salsa was very fresh, tasted great! It was just done very well.
Basically, you could tell the chef there cares about the food they put out. The staff also very friendly and welcoming.
Overall a great experience, we both loved it and will be visiting again...
Read moreWent to this hotel last night for dinner. Main courses were tasty and well, presented. After trying to catch the 2 servers attention by gesturing to them several times, ( who seemed oblibious to the fact our main course plates had been cleared) we had to walk over to them and ask to order dessert. I must say I have never had to do this before anywhere. They seemed totally disinterested and I wonder if the biscoff sundae that was then presented had something to do with the fact that we had made it obvious we weren't impressed with their attitude. These at £7.50 consisted of a smear of caramel sauce, a smidge of ice cream that I needed to dig deep to find, topped with about 4 inches of double cream. Sprinkled with his off crum and a biscoff biscuit perched on top. Not my expectation of a rather expensive sundae. When asked on paying UF everything was alright I relayed the above. Server shrugged and said oh thav was because you split it in half? |Wont be back. Sad. Nithssale hotel your servers need to do...
