Phoenix Bakery stands out as one of the finest bakeries in the country, rivaling even the best establishments around. Every item is freshly made on site, with nothing processed—a testament to their commitment to quality. I visit Phoenix Bakery one or twice a week to indulge in their freshly baked wholemeal bread and delectable biscotti. Over the past four years, I’ve been a loyal customer, consistently impressed by their offerings despite the bakery not being local to my village. The anticipation of each visit is always a highlight of my week. The customer service at Phoenix Bakery is truly outstanding. A special shout out to the lovely local lady behind the counter, whose perpetual smile and exceptional service make each visit a pleasure. Her friendly demeanour enhances the overall experience, making Phoenix Bakery a welcoming place for all. While Phoenix Bakery excels in many areas, there are a few aspects that could use attention. It’s disappointing that the bakery is occasionally closed without much notice, which can be inconvenient for regular customers. Consistent opening hours would greatly enhance the customer experience. Phoenix Bakery has immense potential, and I sincerely hope the owners seize every opportunity to elevate this wonderful establishment even further. Expanding their range to include cakes, breads, and pastries with lower sugar content would cater to modern dietary preferences and broaden their appeal. Despite being a bit of a trek from my village, the quality and service make it well worth the effort. I highly recommend Phoenix Bakery to anyone seeking fresh, high quality baked goods with a friendly touch.

Phoenix Bakehouse, Inverbervie – The Chicken Curry Pie That’s Pure Comfort (And the Warmest Welcome in the Northeast) I popped into Phoenix Bakehouse on a quiet day in Inverbervie, just looking for a quick bite—but what I got was something genuinely memorable. First off, the woman behind the counter was brilliant. Friendly, warm, and full of chat—the kind of person who makes you feel like a regular even if it’s your first visit. She had a big smile, easygoing banter, and yes—she was also very good looking, in that effortlessly charming, “runs a brilliant bakery and knows it” kind of way. I grabbed the famous chicken curry pie, because let’s be honest—that’s what the locals rave about. And rightfully so. The pie was everything you’d hope for: golden pastry with just the right amount of flake (not the kind that explodes into crumbs all over your lap), and a creamy, mildly spiced curry filling that hits the comfort food sweet spot. Not too hot, not too bland—just right. The chicken was tender and generous, and the whole thing tasted homemade in the best possible way. It’s not fancy, it’s not over-the-top. It’s just properly good food, made by people who care, served with a smile and a bit of banter. And honestly, that combo is rare these days. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. Would I drive out of my way for another pie and a wee chat? Already planning it. Solid 10/10. Tastes like home—if home had better pies and a friendlier kitchen

Top class bakery, all tasted so good. When we were on the way out the shop we stopped just to ask what a buttery was as had never tried one. The owner kindly sent us away with two they’d made earlier that didn’t quite make the shopfront but able for us to try for free!

Phoenix Bakery is truly a unique gem. What sets it apart is the exceptional quality of its offerings. The bread and pastries here are wonderfully light – nothing feels overwhelming or heavy. Every bite is filled with goodness, rich in wholesome ingredients that speak of care and craftsmanship. The flavours are distinctly European, far from the artificial and dense pre-packaged loaves you often find elsewhere.

What’s particularly interesting about this bakery is how it fuses British baking tradition with a modern European twist. These are not your typical, boring bakes – they’re intriguing and full of character. I highly recommend trying the sourdough bread with fresh butter – it’s simply delicious – as well as the pastries, which are equally delightful.

The only minor issue I’ve encountered is that some of the cakes can be a bit dry, likely due to being displayed under lamps that don’t help retain their moisture. However, beyond that, everything is truly interesting and worth exploring. Phoenix Bakery offers not only delicious but also healthy options, and I’m glad I stumbled upon it. Highly...
