Had been recommended this by a friend who said he had visited regularly last year so thought we would give it a go! Overall really disappointing experience and we won’t be back even with the offer of a free breakfast! We entered the cafe which was fine, took our seat and my husband went and ordered. All good and easy enough. we ordered a breakfast, scrambled egg on toast, poached egg on toast with a side of veggie haggis x 2. When it came out there was no veggie haggis on one when my husband said to the server we had ordered it she rudely said you didn’t order that you only asked for one, when he explained what he said she said you never and I haven’t charged you. My husband went and paid for a side of veggie haggis and the same women then said abruptly to the kitchen, that man never ordered that. She told us it would be three mins, at least ten mins passed and everyone was finished their breakfast except me who was waiting on my veggie haggis whilst my poached eggs and toast went cold. My husband went up to ask about it and she told us it wasn’t even cooking yet, he got a refund for the haggis and came back to the table, the eggs by this point were cold so we took it back up and again the same rude women said, is there a problem abruptly! We asked for a refund and another lady apologised and offered a free one next time. She was nice enough but didn’t make up for the other terrible member of staff who clearly sees customers as an inconvenience! Other than that we found some annoyances. We got fresh orange juice, advertised as Folkingtons fresh orange at £3.45, what is actually available is princes 200ml carton of fresh orange which you pay 60p for. Also as a side note, why do you send scrambled egg on toast etc out with a side of butter, are we supposed to scrape the mound of egg off to put butter on before putting the egg back on? Won’t be back purely down to the worst customer service I have ever...

Update: Sadly, very disappointing today...

Ordered the poached eggs on toast. The chef obviously scooped the eggs out of the pan and dumped them, water and all, into the toast, resulting in very wet, soggy toast! 🥴

The eggs themselves were pretty poorly poached (how hard can it really be? 🤷‍♂️).

Then I enjoyed the of egg shell hidden underneath! Delightful! 🤢

Took the time to give constructive feedback to one of the staff, but I got the impression that she didn't really care much. Didn't even get an apology...

Not great, especially when I'm trying to coax the local club bike ride to swing by the Milk bar for coffee and cake (easily two groups of 20+ riders)...

Such a contrast with my previous visits here.

Stop off for refuelling about ¾ through a 100 mile bicycle ride. Really didn't expect the toastie to be such a full plate with a decent bit of salad, nachos, and some coleslaw (that was not drowned in mayo! 👍). Ham and apple wood smoked cheese was very tasty and properly 'loaded'. Definitely no skimping! 👌

Coffee was excellent too (flat white made properly - ie triple espresso shot).

Staff were very friendly and welcoming - very positive and helpful despite the place being very busy.

A perfect stop that hit the spot!

Very much...

Back when I lived in Aberdeenshire, I would enjoy visiting this cafe together with my dad on our motorcycles. Fast forward 8 years, I am back in Scotland to visit family and decide that I would like to take that same route from my dad's home to the Milk Bar for old time's sake. Since it is New Year's day, I call ahead and to my surprise someone picks up and confirms they are open until 3pm!!

"Everyone in the car!!"; wife, two kids and dad then we drive that same route that we once hurtled along on our motorcycles!

It is a beautiful drive coming from Kirkcaldy then through Cardenden and past Loch Leven, across the A9 etc etc and finally to Powmill. Dad & I talked about various points on the road where we could accelerate hard, then brake hard, watch out for pot holes and yup, the police used to hide here and there...Great memories...then we arrived at the Milk Bar but it's in darkness - I check my watch, it's 1:15. The sign on the door says open until 4pm! What's going on?? I knock on the door, peer through the window but there's no sign of life! I check my phone; I did call the right place!

5 stars for the memories and the beautiful drive, Minus 3 stars for...

Went today, when weather wasn’t the best outside typical scottish weather! but inside it was cosy and had been freshly decorated. Halloween decorations were up too which was nice. It took us a while to decide what we wanted from menu as plenty of choice. Once we decided went up. The two girls were both friendly, approachable and went out there way. Ie one provided cutlery I needed due to having baby and made sure it was right. The service from both girls were friendly and welcoming. When food arrived it was filling/ great portion size, can’t complain at all about the amount and it tasted good too. Everyone who ordered loved their food, clear plate. I had macaroni cheese and baby approved too. It’s tricky finding foods she’ll eat so this was a bonus! And if you’re on a diet maybe have a treat day when you come as the cake choice is so good and the meringues are massive! Friendly, busy, cosy, cakes!, macaroni cheese! 5s all around. We’ll be back.

The Scone Rangers popped into the milk bar this morning. It was our first time there. Well, I was there in my adolescence and that’s not just yesterday. We had our usual, coffee and cream scones and both were good. Piping hot coffee and generously proportioned cream scones. On the subject of baking, the cakes and pastries on display looked mouth-watering, and included the largest meringues I’ve ever seen. Meringue? No, I’m right. The staff were very pleasant and, to this point, everything was just tickety boo. However, a visit to the gents left a kind of bad impression. Very much in need of a facelift. Shabby I’d say, not to mention a bit whiffy. I can’t tell you about the ladies toilets, obviously. I wasn’t in there. So, owners, spend a few hundreds and make it right, and maybe it won’t be another fifty years ‘til I’m back.
