We dined at Red Skye last night and I had to write a review immediately because I was so delighted with the entire experience. It was perfect from start to finish! Unforgettable dining experience and already a cherished memory!

Firstly, the ambiance in the dining room is so lovely and atmospheric with the wooden paneling being painted midnight blue and the walls an inviting yellow. This made for a very pretty contrast and along with the fireplace and the paintings of Scottish castles, the space felt so warm, authentically Scottish, and inviting.

The staff were so welcoming and attentive. The service was very warm, kind, personal, timely, and professional.

The food was outstanding. Rarely does one come across such wholesome, good, pure, quality, delicious food. This was the best dining experience I’ve had in a while. I just loved the purity and wholesomeness of the dishes!

We shared the squat lobster in garlic butter (a special) with delicious homemade focaccia. They were so sweet and fresh, but really a lot of work to get the meat out of the shells. I ordered them because I’d never had squat lobster before and I’m glad I did, but in hindsight I would have preferred the langoustines (on the main menu). It’s a personal preference as langoustines are my favorite product in the world but I wanted to try something new!

There are lots of glowing reviews about the venison burger and truly, the depth of deliciousness of this meaty, juicy burger with a very, very flavorful melty cheese. My word, was it divine. It was clear that it was a perfection combination of the quality of the meat with a perfect preparation of the product combined with just the right cheese to both offset and complement the flavor of the venison, delicious caramelized onions, and a perfect brioche bun. Oh yes, and it was served with a generous portion of a very crisp and peppery arugula salad that wonderfully cut through the richness of the burger. I only order burgers when I know they are going to be high quality in advance and still, this one blew me out of the water (even after I got my expectations up reading all those super positive reviews!). I don’t know if or when I’ll ever have a burger that comes close, but I may just have to return to Skye for this one! Great fries and an extra side of cole slaw went very well with this show-stopper of a burger that I’ll be thinking about for a very, very long time (until I can have it again, that’s for sure)!

OK, so after all that, I was very full, but if I’m getting a sticky toffee pudding anywhere, it’s going to be at a place like this. Then you know it’s homemade. So we split a sticky toffee pudding and a Scottish cheeseboard with chutney and oatcakes. I am not a whisky fan but I really wanted to try it again so I asked for the most mild, accessible whisky and I had a lovely wee dram of a rather sweet one from the Isle of Raasay distillery that tasted of Christmas pudding recommended to me by the server and I really liked it alongside the cheese, chutney, and oatcakes!

10/10 dining experience. Red Skye is an absolute gem. Grateful to have been able to dine there and have this food memory. Don’t waste your time or money at any lesser culinary experience on Skye! Rarely do you come across such a special dining experience these days and one that ticks...

My friend and I dined recently, a very disappointing experience for me. Although the menu looked varied with delicious sounding choices, it was not the case for me. I am a vegetarian and was informed the one veg. choice (risotto)) had finished the previous evening and nothing else had been made. I asked if the chef could prepare something else and was told that was not possible as ‘all the food was out.’ I was offered a quail’s egg salad (a starter) with the bacon taken out or gnocchi (main) with the chorizo removed. I opted for the gnocchi as I didn’t wish to disrupt the evening further. The gnocchi arrived in a soup bowl, a side salad in a soup bowl also. The side salad was simple bistro style leaves with a few spring onions sliced, drenched in oil. The gnocchi was flavourless, swimming in a soup of tomato, some spinach and the singular flavour, chilli. I ate a few bites of each but could not finish either. At no stage did the chef try to offer an alternative, even a simple omelette would have been lovely at this point. I sent the food back to the kitchen, the chef did not make an appearance and there was no effort made to communicate with me or try to make things right. My friend paid the bill, her meal had been satisfactory. She was charged full price for my meal and the whole experience left me feeling that a little effort to remedy things would have transformed the experience. Very disappointing as we are local - I would have loved to have found a new gem to dine for...

My wife and I stumbled upon Red Skye while adventuring through the Isle of Skye in our motorhome, and what a fantastic find it was! We were both craving seafood, and this place absolutely delivered.

We started with the Pan-Seared Scallops to share – and wow, they were enormous! Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour, they set the tone for the rest of the meal. For mains, we couldn’t resist the freshly caught langoustines. These were hands down the best we’ve ever tasted! Dripping in garlic butter that dribbled down our hands as we devoured them, they were perfectly cooked and bursting with flavour. Every bite was pure heaven.

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and we were greeted by the son of the owner, who made us feel like part of the family. His passion for the food and the local produce really shone through, adding an extra special touch to the experience.

The restaurant itself is simple and sweet, with a lovely relaxed vibe that made it the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring.

If you’re in the Isle of Skye and love seafood, Red Skye is an absolute must-visit. Delicious food, wonderful service, and an overall unforgettable experience, and thankfully so, as it was my wife's last time to ever enjoy her favourite shell fish, having lost her battle to cancer only a month later.

Thank you everyone at Red Skye for our fabulous time there and outstanding meal.

We can’t recommend it...

Honestly the best restaurant we’ve been to in Scotland, or even the UK overall. We had the mini lobsters, oysters, salmon, and the lamb burger. My husband and I are from the US and South Korea, where fish restaurants are quite common and we both agreed that the salmon was the best we’ve ever had, hands down. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, we did have to wait a little while after the starter, but honestly, we didn’t mind. After tasting the mains, we completely understood — each plate was so thoughtful and full of care. I’m currently 7 months pregnant, and the staff (especially the lovely lady who looked after us) was incredibly attentive, making sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. Only downside? My pregnancy brain forgot to think straight, and I accidentally left my bag on the chair! 😭😂 We’re still trying to call the restaurant to pick it up, but it opens at 5pm — so yeah, don’t be like me and triple check your chair before you leave!

The food? The starters were absolutely delicious— my taste buds threw a party. The mains for the price the quality was expected of a medium entry restaurant, so it was disappointing. The wait time, however? Interstellar. I'm pretty sure we entered a new time zone between starters and mains. We had so much spare time, we ended up doing a deep dive into the restaurant's replies to bad reviews. Let me tell you, Gordon Ramsay wishes he had this level of sass. If you're hungry and patient — or just here for the drama — this place delivers on both counts. For context: it took about 30 minutes to get our starters then we waited almost an hour for our main. On the bright side, we now have a favorite soap opera and it’s in the review section. Save yourself some time and just go to the vastly superior restaurant The Sprig just a couple minutes down the road!
