I love popping into the Woollen Mill for a coffee and a wee dig through the shop.
The café is great for just coffees and I love the hot chocolate. Good for juice and soft drinks too. Cakes and scones are brilliant, but they often do run out by the time you're having an afternoon cuppa. They do serve Tunnock's products as the obvious alternative though.
The Mill Shop next door is great for a mooch, especially if you want to send a friend a Nessie fridge magnet or buy your mother-in-law her annual Allan Wright calendar.
If there's an issue with the Woollen Mill, it's to say to try and avoid it when there's a coachload or twelve of touroids in. It's not the extra waiting in the café, or the inability to move a muscle in the crowds... it's the sense of entitlement that they seem to have and think they can jump the queues and literally take a Tunnock's Caramel Wafer off your tray, rather than looking for them on the counter for themselves, because they only have 3 minutes and 27 seconds to get back to their bus...
That's not the Mill's fault though. They do that everywhere.
Other than that, though, great place...
Read moreIt’s hard to review as we couldn’t get any food. However I will try, we turned up at 1500 hours on a Friday, 2 hours till closing time. There was macaroni cheese advertised however they had ran out and not taken down the sign. They don’t do fresh sandwiches and again only had two packet options left. No fresh cakes and instead about four wrapped cakes left. A full breakfast was advertised but again stops at 1130. Scones were advertised but looked stale and had been sitting out in a basket since god knows when. Basically the only option was a jacket potato which looked dry. The staff tried their best but they had nothing to work with. This is a good location and a through town to Inverness and has potential but without investment won’t do well...
Read moreRude Staff. On holiday in Scotland, on a bus tour in Highlands, this was our lunch stop. With not many food options at Spean bridge my son and I got a hot dog from spar next door, daughter and wife got a slice of pizza at the Spean Bridge. We all were sitting in the empty restaurant and having our food when one of the staff walked over to us and asked us to leave as 2 of us were having outside food. We had to leave in the middle of our food. We were planning to shop for some gifts in the gift shop, decided against it. True display of hospitality!! After covid I thought they would be happy to see tourist coming in, but guess you are not looking for business. I wouldn't recommend this place to...
