Taste Perthshire – A Highland Hug in Pitlochry

We popped into Taste Perthshire as part of a Highlands tour—just a quick pit stop for restrooms and snacks, but it turned out to be a highlight of the day!

The restaurant offers a wide selection of hearty Scottish fare, and while we didn’t have time to dive into the full menu, the snack options were fresh and satisfying. Word on the tour bus was that the desserts are legendary—next time, I’m making room for sticky toffee pudding!

Staff were warm and welcoming, even with our slightly chaotic group tumbling in and out. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, and it’s dog-friendly too—perfect for travelers with four-legged companions.

The gift shop is a treasure trove of Scottish goodies, from tartan trinkets to locally made treats. But let’s be honest: the real stars of the show were the Hairy Coos. These majestic Highland cows stole our hearts with their shaggy bangs and gentle eyes. Feeding them felt like meeting the rockstars of rural Scotland—one even posed like it knew it was going viral. If you’ve never hand-fed a cow while it gives you side-eye through a curtain of ginger fringe, you haven’t truly lived.

Taste Perthshire isn’t just a stop—it’s a slice of Highland hospitality wrapped in charm and cow cuddles. Highly recommend pulling over, even if just for a snack and a selfie...

Amazing place. We stayed here with our motorhome. (Free and immediately made to feel very welcome). It looks somewhat average from outside but once you spend a bit of time here you see how special it is.

We will have been here almost 24 hours when we leave. We had lunch yesterday, breakfast this morning and soon will be having afternoon tea in one of their huts. Food is excellent. The staff, service and atmosphere are impressive. They could not have been any more flexible to accommodate our kids who are fussy eaters. Nothing is too much trouble.

We spent a fair amount of time sat outside in the sun on their very comfortable sofa. We watched other guests come with dogs and the staff would show up after a little while with water bowls for the dogs.

So much more I could say. Highland cows (with babies) 1 minute walk away. (Kids enjoyed feeding them). Kids play area that our kids spent hours in.

Really can't praise this place enough. A special mention to the restaurant staff who really could not do enough to make our visit as pleasant as possible....

We saw a sign for Scottish liqueurs and made a quick pitstop, hoping to unearth some local finds. There was a tasting area and a mature lady giving talks about what was on offer but we were made to feel quite excluded in favour of a pair who seemed to just be out to sample the store. It seems to me rather than leave us and other customers milling about to finally give in to frustration and shop elsewhere, the small space could have easily accommodated addressing everyone. And no need to repeat the same information over again either. The store is charming and even with the odd choice of filling it with Christmas decorations in September we still enjoyed having a nose around. But our little detour was a bit soured by the inattentive service.
