I was expecting much more based on other reviews here. But the service from one server in particular was appalling. Taking the order of a table that arrived after ours and then being beligurant for pointing this out. One of those Scottish servers that thinks their job is below themselves and that customers should be grateful to them for their service, no matter how bad that is. If you dislike customers then perhaps hospitality isn't for you, I can think of 5 other jobs in the area that would hire you tomorrow if you want to try something new out. No one should work in a job they do not love, read, delivering happiness, for more on that. So the toast was charred, the potatoe bread too, most of the food was OK, but messing up today and potatoe bread detracted. The other problem was the lack of WiFi and Internet, when I informed that I could not connect to the WiFi, I was told its just a bad area for Internet, I had to be sterne and point out that I could not even connect to the WiFi, after making this point on the seperate occasions they final reset the router, at which point the WiFi and the Internet worked fine. The WiFi and Internet thing is bad enough at the best of times, but we are in covid times, what point providing a QR code to scan when I can't get online, their was zero 4g or any G on my phone or my companions, I doubt anyone can get Internet on their phones there. Worse is that at no time did they explain the check in process. Only offering for us to physically sign in, I believe no one signed in their whole we where there, other than us. Not protecting patrons is a kin to saying, we only want your money, your wellbeing is not...
Β Β Β Read moreMy partner and I were quite regular customers at The Bothy as the service was always spot on and the food was great but recently we have found that the food has been poor, despite the increase in price.
We visited today and I cannot believe the chef served us the poached egg that he did. It was over done, with a mattified skin and a solid yolk. The bacon was dried out and shrivelled, and the sausages were more like mini chipolatas (however, they still tasted good, just tiny). There is a clear slip in the standard of the food, which is such a shame as the service from the waiting staff is always high.
The tables could do with being redone as the varnish has a sticky feeling about it. I understand this is likely because of the cleaning products, but it just makes it feel dirty and gives a horrible feeling on bare skin.
It's a shame to say, but we won't be...
Β Β Β Read moreWhilst visiting the shop we decided to have breakfast at The Bothy. Unfortunately, there was no table available, but we were told it would only be a 20-minute wait and gave us a buzzer. Less than 10 minutes later, we were buzzed and got our table. We ordered lattes and 2 breakfasts. The server who took the order informed us that we could change items on our plate if we didn't want them. Soon after, our food and drinks came out. We couldn't fault any of it. In fact, it's the best breakfast we have had in a while, all items cooked perfectly and none of it greasy. The servers were all polite, prompt, and well presented. Immediately, a table was left by the customer. One of the servers was over to tidy up, clean, and disinfect, ready for the next customer. Fantastic food and a special mention to all the...
