The Broadstraik Inn — Restaurant in Scotland

Honestly the worst meal I've ever had. I went for lunch on a weekday and ordered the roast vegetable risotto which came with "rocket and pine nuts". We had pre ordered, but our table waited for 45 minutes before our food arrived.

When my risotto came I noticed there were no pine nuts and I didn't see any parmesan cheese, but I thought they might be hiding under the nest of rocket. I was very disappointed to find that not only were there no pine nuts or parmesan, but there were no roast vegetables to be seen. I forked through the long grain rice, to find 3 pieces of courgette! No other vegetables at all. I tried the rice and it was pretty tasteless, creamy with a hint of garlic. It was more like rice pudding. Certainly not what I expected for £10.

I asked my colleagues to taste my food and they were as shocked as I was. I did not finish my food, which is unlike me as I am not a fussy eater. I would have preferred the staff to be honest with me and say that they didn't have the ingredients for a risotto.

My colleague also had to ask a member of staff twice for vinegar and when she did bring it we had almost finished our meal. I would expect this in a busy restaurant, but there was only our table and another couple in, all the other tables were empty and clean.

Myself and my colleagues will not be back. I only gave 1 star as no stars was not an option. Very...

Food was lovely. Enjoyed the drinks and desserts. The waitresses were so polite and nice but one made a small mistake, with the new card machine they have just started training on. We had asked for a receipt and it didn’t print out. She asked the “man in charge” when he was passing if he could help. He told her in front of us that’s not how you get a receipt, you don’t use that machine if you want a receipt, shook his head and just walked away ???? He was condescending and rude! She apologised for the mistake, which I appreciated but not from her, it should have come from him. She looked worried and when she followed him back to ask how she’d get the receipt, he started waving his arms and seemed irritated. He spoke down to her and we ended up not getting the receipt because he walked away without helping, again. Not the way a manager should be speaking/acting towards staff, especially to a place that has such a nice team of waiters and waitresses. And in front of customers. So unprofessional! We asked to speak with him but he went and hid in the bar on the other side. It was the same man who took my booking over the phone and was very sarcastic when I asked if I’d be be to book a table. I should have gone with my gut and not made the booking, he totally spoiled the experience and I feel for the team that were...

Poor choice of normal pub food, slow slow service. Waited over 40 mins for the only special on the board, steak and ale pie with mash and seasonal vegetables £14. Ordered two, one with mash and one with chips. After 5 mins chef appeared to check menu board shrugged his shoulders and disappeared back to the kitchen. ( bad sign). 40 mins later the pies arrived. Warm shrivelled vegetables with mash to match. The chips although warmer were pickled with salt. The pies were the only thing that was hot but were not the home made with flakey pastry as was expected because of the wait. They were just like as mass produced pie with shortcrust pastry and strong thickish gravy. Left without ordering anything else. When mentioned to waitress while paying did get a sorry. Only one other diner in bistro, bar was a bit busier serving burgers and drinks. Will not be back....
