Disappointed and Unwelcome: Not the Highland Experience We Hoped For.
We visited Cameron Tearooms today, hoping to enjoy a nice lunch with the family and, of course, see the famous Highland cows that made this place so popular. Unfortunately, our experience turned out to be far from warm or welcoming.
My wife and sister briefly walked over to take a few photos of the cows before heading into the tearoom as we fully intended to lunch there and believed that made us customers. A sign did mention that the animals are for guests only, but since we were about to eat at the restaurant, we assumed this applied to us.
However, an employee (probably manager or owner) came out and rather abruptly told us we were not allowed to photograph the cows because we weren’t yet customers. We politely explained that we were heading in right after the photos, but were told we must first be seated, place an order, and then come back to see the animals. The tone was unnecessarily harsh and uninviting.
We proceeded to the restaurant, where we were told (there were six of us) that all tables were fully booked and they couldn’t seat us. This was surprising as there was no visible signage, and no clear indication on the website homepage about a reservation requirement. After some checking, we did find it, but only in small print at the very bottom of the site , not what we’d call “clearly communicated,” as we were told by staff (screenshots enclosed). No lunch, no flexibility, no courtesy. We left disappointed and hungry.
We had visited this tearoom before and had a lovely experience ,good food, friendly staff, and a cozy atmosphere, never had to book. Sadly, this visit was the exact opposite. The way we were spoken to, the lack of hospitality, and the rigid enforcement of unclear rules left a very bitter taste. A place that once felt charming now feels cold and overly self-important.
Tip to customers: if you plan to go, book in advance and don’t even look at the cows until you've placed your order.
Tip to owners: you have a great cafe with loads of charm, please let this message incurrage you to improve your costumer service and create a true...
Read moreAfter a year again at The Camerons Tea Rooms & Farm Shop. A fire burning in the oven and warmth while the frost outside added white to the colors of the autumn landscape. From the moment you enter, you can smell the aroma of fresh cakes, the selection of which has grown and expanded since last year. Good coffee and a hospitable mood remained. I definitely recommend a visit. Family business Cafe Camerons is open in the low season from Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Pictured with Mrs. Morag Cameron and the book "A Country Called Stratherrick /A.B. Lawson/" about the stories of the people and places south west of Loch Ness, book is available here in the shop at Highland.
In 2023: An exceptional location not far from Lochnes near the village of Foyers. Deer, cows and horses graze outside. A fire is burning in the fireplace, the aroma of freshly baked home-made cakes and good coffee spreads. All this with the hospitality of a family business creates a very pleasant atmosphere. I...
Read moreStopped in at this place as I was recommended it for our trip to the highland. We were especially excited to see the cows which were adorable. That’s kind of where the positives end. We went in to grab a bite to eat, and waited about 3 minutes or so before the hostess spoke to us. She said that there were no available tables inside but we could sit outside, we were fine with that, were handed menus and told to come back to the till to order. As we looked over the menu the food looked tasty and we made our minds up pretty quickly and proceeded to stand by the till. We stood there for around 5 minutes watching the hostess as well as the cook set tables for the reserved parties who weren’t there yet. We were not acknowledged at all, and it was very apparent they didn’t want us there. I was sad because I would have liked to have lunch and watch the cows but clearly they didn’t want the business. Oh well. We went to the waterfall cafe up the road and...
