Food was great and really good value. Couldn't book a table, said they don't take bookings after 5pm as they have been so busy. Turned up at 5:10pm to be asked if I had booked a table. I said no I wasn't allowed to book a table after 5pm. Yes that right the young waiter said 😣. Anyway got a table with no wait which was good. Informed that when we were ready take our table number up to the bar and order food there. Went to the bar to order the food and the same person taking your order is also getting all the drinks for everybody's order had to wait about 10mins to get served. Was asked if we wanted to set up a tab so that we didn't have to come back to the bar to order more drinks or dessert, they would take our order at the table. Food came pretty quick and was delicious. They were quick to clear the table when we were finished but nobody came to see if we wanted more drinks or dessert. I asked the waiter (same guy that met us at the door) if we could order dessert. He told us we needed to go to the bar to do that. I told we had set up a tab and was told we could order at the table. Again he told me I was right but that he couldn't take my order but he would get someone who could. Waited 10 mins they never came, so went up to the bar and waited another 10 mins to order dessert. I'm guessing (hoping) service will improve as they have just opened and have been exceptionally busy by all accounts. The food is amazing value, they have TV screens in the booths playing kids TV and an outside play area. We will definitely...
Read moreCurrently in the capelrig for fathers day lunch was pre book table which cost 12 pound, apon arrival and seating we noticed a sign on the table, which stated this tableis required for 2.15pm, we arrived at 12.30pm thats a 1hr and 45 mins we have the table for, now with a 4 yearold child that isnt enough time for a child who takes his time with eating, so we then decided to make a point to a manager whos name is graeham who came over with the worse attitude to begin with about the time frame and the fact we where there for 25 mins at this point and still havent gave a food order, we said to him about these issues and his arguement was that it was 1hr and 45mins and it should be plenty of time to eat, and we said to him it was not his answer was it is what it is which isnt the right attitude then walked away, now waiting on our food and awaiting to see what he will do when it comes to 2.15pm and we havent finished our food:) will update. Also, we were not made aware of there being a time period when making this booking. (Update): another manager came over who was real nice, she said we had more time due to a cancellation approx 30mins more, we had a nice meal and didnt see the manager graeham for the rest of our tim there, we finished our...
Read moreHave visited the Capelrig a few times so was looking forward to a work lunch here today, and while the staff were very nice, unfortunately it was the food that was a let down here. The lentil soup was kind of tasteless, the lentils were pretty hard. Then the Steak & Ale pie, which looked very impressive on the plate, was mostly all gravy & pastry (thick shortcrust), but very little actual steak. It tasted good thanks to the copious amount of gravy & all that shortcrust pastry certainly filled me up. As for the 'mashed potato', well I never knew you could do that to potato. It was essentially a squished & flattened pattie of rubbery potato. Given how round & smooth it was I'm guessing it just came out of a freezer, got zapped then was popped out of its container onto the plate and squashed with a kitchen utensil in an attempt to disguise its origins. Such a shame for a place that used to serve very good food. I probably should have just complained to the staff at the time but I was with a group of colleagues on a work lunch and didn't want to make a big deal of it, or wait any longer for something to eat. Can't see me going back or recommending this place...
