This place is lovely! First time I have been here for many years. Back then it was just Corton Plants. Since then, the owner has slowly but surely expanded to have a Café, a lovely little gift shop and The Milk Hoose at the Coo Shed. I was greeted with a smile by a staff member who was tending to the plants. She had lots of information, was very friendly and chatty and helped with all my crazy questions. I popped into the café for a quick look and bought a slice of banoffee pie that was delicious! I spoke to a couple of the staff and they were very friendly and helpful and seemed happy there. The gift shop is beautifully decorated and I had my 10 month old daughter with me, she loved it! Everything from the paper ball lightshades to the shelves for the gifts looked lovely! The gifts are really nice and we picked up a tin of "Sheep Poo" (chocolate coated honeycomb pieces) for my husband for a laugh.
The Milk Hoose is in the car park and inside is the milk vending machine. The bottles are to the right of the machine and are £2 each, just pop the money in the honesty box and you can bring that bottle back for refills! Pay by cash or contactless (£1.50 per litre), hold the bottle under the nozzle and press the button to dispense your fresh milk!
The milk is really tasty, nothing like supermarket milk as although is has been fully pasteurised, it hasn't been homogenised so you can expect to see some cream settling at the top (nothing to worry about, it hasn't gone off). Just agitate the bottle or give it a shake to mix it in before pouring and you're good to go! They say that the milk lasts at least three days in the fridge, but be sure to thoroughly clean and steralise the bottle before reuse (there is a leaflet that describes the different ways to do this).
There are various ways to get here, it is on the same road as the Ayrshire Equitation Centre but at the other end. If you are on the A77, Corton road is opposite Doonfoot Road where the speed cameras are. Maybe about a quarter mile up the road on the right, you'll see a sign for Corton Plants and The Coo Shed. If you're on the A713, the turning is opposite a business park called Digital and you can see the Equitation Centre. Drive past the Equitation Centre and over the little rail bridge and the signs will be on your left as to get towards the end of the road. We can't wait to try the café, enjoy your...
Read moreWe visited The Coo Shed on Saturday past and had a lovely lunch. There was plenty of parking available and we had fun making our own milkshake. We tried the Banana (my favourite) Nutella and chocolate mint. We arrived at 12pm and there was a small queue outside which we didn’t mind waiting, despite the wind and a little rain as we drove an hour to get there. It was an also the weekend so we weren’t surprised by the wait either. We queued for around 25minutes.
The cafe/restaurant is also on lovely grounds and has a a plant and gift garden/store. All very well kept. The cafe was ofcourse packed inside as there wasn’t a seat not sat in. However plenty of room and space along with beautiful high ceilings. Very Kid friendly and enough seating areas for families with prams etc. Excellent display of cakes at the very entrance and something for everyone to try.
We ordered the soups, tomato and broth, both were delicious. Then bagels, toasted crispy chicken wraps and macaroni and chips for my toddler. Everything was lovely. Soup a tad salty however thats personal preference as my sister didn’t find her soup salty. Great portions too. We then got a slice of the rainbow cake and a scone with Jam and Butter. My daughter loved the cake and the scone was baked perfectly. Overall a wonderful afternoon, clean facilties and the prices were fantastic.
Definitely will be back and would recommend to anyone...
Read moreWas in the area so had a visit to the coo shed, it's been years since we were here last! My how it's grown!
There used to be one wee vending machine & a counter that served stuff - now there are sheds! Plural!
Great selection of flavours to add their milk to! All houses in venting machines! It took us a good 20mins to decide on our selection 😅
£3.50 gets you a reusable glass bottle with your chosen syrup. £1.50 (I think) fills it with milk.
Theres also a machine that does ice cream, cakes, various snacks & one for merch!
Had a wander round the gift shop which has some lovely bits - nipped into the cafe to use the loo whilst there. The cafe was MOBBED! people also waiting outside for a table - always a good sign (this was mid afternoon on a Wednesday! Not even the school holidays) 😂
When walking through the cafe, the food looked great & the cake cabinet divine!
Glad to see there is now traffic lights at the end of the farm road - I remember it being a bit hairy when leaving the last time, so this also makes me more inclined to go back! I defo need to...
