The Lochside Bar & Restaurant at The Onich Hotel — Restaurant in Scotland

I never leave negative reviews, but...

This was by far the most poorly run hotel restaurant I've ever been to.

We had a dinner reservation for two for 7:45. We showed up early (7 pm) and grabbed a couple of drinks at the bar. We were more than happy to wait. Both of us told the manager on duty (separately) that we were there for dinner and had a reservation. He kept disappearing for prolonged periods of time.

The two girls running the bar seemed overworked, undertrained and checked out. The guy bringing the food out of the kitchen just stood there holding it with a bewildered look on his face until one of the bartender girls would stop whatever they were doing and take the food to the tables.

An hour later (8 pm and 15 mins past our reservation time) we were still sitting there at the bar staring at our empty glasses. No one checked on us once. No one offered us menus or asked if we wanted another drink. No one apologized for the delay. People who walked in after us with no reservation got sat.

At 8 pm I asked if it's going to be a much longer wait for our table, at which point one of the bartender girls said that what she could do for us was give us a couple of menus to look over while we wait for our table. I said we'd pay for our two drinks and go elsewhere for dinner.

At this point we were offered a sort of "apology" while trying to shift the blame on us for not reminding her of our reservation. "Next time you should do blah-blah-blah". At that point the manager (whom we told of our reservation - twice) had been out of sight for half an hour and was "probably somewhere in the kitchen".

The food coming out of the kitchen looked good but we weren't willing to waste another couple of hours of our life waiting for it. We ended up driving to Fort William and having a delicious dinner at...

I never really leave reviews as I just expect places to be a certain standard, but this goes above and beyond and deserves a review. First of all the best place to eat at the best prices around by far. The food was hot and service was fast, the portions are incredible and the plates are nice and hot when your food comes out too keep it nice and warm while you work your way through the exceptional burger that we had. You can tell everything is made fresh as the smell from our food and everyone else seated around us just made our mouth's and eyes drool 🤤. We are staying within the hotel but would definitely come back just to eat here if we weren't staying. They even allow your dog in while you eat. Dont be put off by viewing this as a restaurant only as we wasn't dressed up i was still in my walking gear and others around where also underdressed. There is also a sit down bar area aside from the restaurant, which serves the same menu if you dont want to sit within the restaurant itself. If you're looking for somewhere to eat and not yet decided, just stop looking and go here. You will not be disappointed if i could give more stars for the...

First of all we thought the service was very very friendly. We were served very fast, but we were there early. Clearly other people around us had to wait a decent amount of time. Low on staff which made food come out slower. Staff was friendly and hardworking, but the quality of food was very different for every dish. The starters were amazing (caprese salad and scallops. But when the mains came out we were very dissapointed. Our mussels had a very bad taste and all the shells were crushed which made us eat shells half of the time instead of mussels. We didnt finish our plates because we lost our appetite. We gave it a last try with some desserts, but also these were not very tasty.
