What a memorable dining experience! It began pleasantly whilst we were placing our order and asked for a minor change and were firmly told..."No, I can't do that!" After much persuasion we managed to overcome this initial hurdle and ordered a variety of lunchtime dishes with great anticipation. Imagine our delight when the various "food" items arrived. The beer battered haddock must have lost the fight, it was barely warm and looked suspiciously as if it had been revived from a frozen slumber. The pulled pork tacos were inedible, possibly to the point of dangerous to one's health, and we duly pointed this out to our server. She was a bit shouty and asked us if we wanted another serving of the same deadly dish. We chose life and politely declined. The cheese and onion toasty was presented almost as a magic illusion, not touching the plate but rather hovering above it on a sea of oil. But at least the cream tea with home made scones was something to look forward to. It's obvious that water was being rationed as the hot water in the tea cups covered the tea bag but barely filled a third of a cup. It's also the first time we have been treated to canned rather than clotted cream and we did wonder not whose home the scones had been made in but when? They surprisingly possessed an aversion to butter because they disintegrated into stale crumbs at the very touch of it. The server was foghorn loud, the food was a trade description violation and the general ambience was one of regret. Thoroughly worth...
Read moreTwo haggis crackers, Black pepper fries, Two Steak and Black Pudding pie, Steak baguette & two espresso coffee.
As we arrived at Caol, Fort William in a ravenous state; we were greeted by the friendly staff and allocated a table even though they were (almost) fully booked. Without further ado, we picked two Haggis Crackers, Black Pepper Fries as starters to share, a couple of Steak and Black Pudding Pie and a Steak Baguette. Wholehearted food indeed! The tasty Haggis and the crunchy Black pepper fries really helped the cause of the hungry (AKA us) Steak and Black Pudding pies had lots of big and tender beef chunks … a great surprise considering that more often than none, in some gastro-pubs, steak pies contain less than 8 pieces of beef all masqueraded with gravy and peas, well, not the case in this meat abundant and succulent steak pie! Talking about the Steak baguette, even though it was flavoursome and filling the used meat cut was a bit tough (rump steak style) Our waitress was friendly and down-to-earth and when I spotted (and reported to the front of house) that they mistakenly over charged our bill with an extra mineral water, a refund was issued in a pronto-no-fuss style. In summary, The Lochy is a great and affordable place to eat and drink with mates & family. Well done and keep up...
Read moreWent here as its near to my sisters house for lunch. It's only 3 bus stops away but as it was drizzling rain and a strong wind blowing we got the bus. On entry there is a sign stating to wait to be seated, so we did. We were shown to table A10 near the bar and door. I didn't get any of the servers names but they were superbly competent and friendly. We were given quite a comprehensive menu so there was something for everyone. It wasn't very busy when we arrived but soon the tables filled up and there were folk looking for orders to takeaway.. Gina had the little yins bacon and chicken mini baguette and I plumped for the butternut squash and chilli soup and coronation chicken brown bread sandwiches. Only one point about my sisters baguette, I'm sure that it's supposed to be baked in the oven beforehand (it looked white and raw). It came with twice cooked chips and I have to say that the portions (ours and others were more than ample). For drinks I had a soda/blackcurrant and a white coffee for my sister. Later on I had a black tea. Must say that I enjoyed the whole experience and the price (less than £25). Will return again on...
