Me and my partner were visiting the area from North Yorkshire for the week, we struggled to find some good local pubs which had a menu that popped out and that welcomed our furry friend!

After discovering the Pitcairngreen inn, we were pleasantly surprised, upon first glance the pub looks a touch deserted from the exterior; but we put this down to the gloomy day and damp weather. After walking through the door we were greeted by a lovely young man who was more than happy to assist us and get us seated at a table and give us some time to review the food and drink choices.

The food, what can I say other than superb! We were both flabbergasted as the quality of the food, we ordered the Nachos to share as a starter; accompanied with cheese and fried chicken, and what a treat, all homemade by the looks of things, the portion size was large but it was devoured nevertheless!

To follow for main, we enjoyed a steak and ale pie and a Sirloin steak, cooked medium to rare. And I can comfortably say, it was cooked to perfection and accompanied by the best homemade Parmesan chips for the steak and homemade fries for the pie.

To finish we devoured the homemade fudge sundae, topped with homemade ice cream and hand whipped cream! Perfect presentation! I finished off with a dark chocolate cheesecake accompanied again by their very own homemade vanilla ice cream!

To top it all off, a very pleasant experience and service received from the staff on a whole.

Special compliments to the young gentleman behind the bar whom served us this evening and the chef(s) who prepared such mouthwatering courses.

I love the Pitcairn Inn...The staff are excellent, really welcoming, friendly and they make the experience of visiting a pleasure... The bar is cosy, a real village pub and atmosphere, the lounge area is excellent but the restaurant.. wow.. keeping the village theme and atmosphere, with solid tables and chairs well spaced out in a thick walled cottage area..then the food!! Never a disappointment, from haggis nachos, brilliant steak and chicken dishes to puddings to die for....Keep room for cheesecake or brown bread ice cream...or combine both!! What a terrific place for food, drink, craic or just a quiet night this place delivers it all.....I'd say go there ..but I don't want it to...

I took my friend on her first visit to this lovely little pub today and she will definitely be back. I had my usual chicken with peppercorn instead of blue cheese sauce and she had the steak pie, as she does every time we're out for a meal. Mine, as always, was delicious....my friend confirmed that her's was the best steak pie she had ever had. We also had a portion of delicious onion rings between us. The sticky toffee pudding was really moreish, too. I can safely say we will both be back again. The Inn isn't big, and when we arrived it was very busy but we were still welcomed and didn't have to wait too long for our food. Would definitely recommend. Very reasonably...

Six of us met here to catch up with old times. The village green surroundings were attractive. The room we were in was rather dark and dingy. The table had been placed along a wall with a large decorative metal hoop (see photo) 2 inches behind my head. It fell off the wall and struck my head painfully , leaving a graze. Little concern was shown and no apology offered. The food was ok. Id Katsura chicken with home made chips. A butterflied breast deep fried in breadcrumbs, with curry sauce on top. Others reported their food was ok but not outstanding. The batter on a fried fish was alarmingly pale but the fish inside was cooked. The beer was good as was the ice cream for afters.

We were recommended to come here by local friends. As we were on holiday. The food was delicious. All homemade & traditional pub grub but done well. Lots on the specials board & a good children’s menu. We had haggis nachos. Macaroni cheese. Fish & chips. Scampi & chips. Also a kids burger. For dessert it was cherry pavlova. Which was one of the best desserts I’ve had 🤩. The portion sizes are really good too. They also do smaller portions, hence the 3 courses 😆 The staff were very friendly. We also took home, homemade tablet. (A traditional Scottish sweet). Thank you for a nice last night of our weekend away. We’ll definitely be back.

I was visiting my sister in the village and had a lovely cheese cake with a drink here. Great food. Surprised to see the amount of options that can be made vegan or gluten free. The staff were wonderful and the pub put on a free fire work display with free stovies (is that the correct spelling) It really does seem to be a meeting place for the community and an enjoyable experience. I had my dog with me and they welcomed dogs with open arms.. I wish london was a little more tolerant. Be sure to read what is written on the tip jar. That made me laugh out loud. I will be back.
