Dreadful lunch experience. Food was basically awful. Prawn and crab cake starter....the prawns (Malaysan tiger type, penaeus) were translucent/raw and not cooked, however one of them had a bit of pink showing. Would have expected Scottish langoustine prawn tails, but these were standard frozen catering prawns. The single centrally placed crab cake was pretty much tasteless, and certainly had no crab flavour. Felt quite nauseous after the prawns, and this queasy feeling persisted all day. All served on a large cold white plate with pretensious circles of pink and lime green creamy paste, and none of it nice. The calamari starter was dark brown in colour and had been deep fried to death. Mainly coating with next to no visible squid when cut into. It had been oversalted and some of the tiny pieces were actually slightly off. It was also very greasy with a strong flavour of over used oil. The battered haddock was small and provided on a large barely warm plate, along with triple cooked fries in a little stack. The fish was fresh and very tasty though, and there was a wedge of slightly seared lemon ... which was about the only nice touch in presentation as the plate was noticeably bare otherwise. The crushed peas were an interesting flavour, but watery pureed peas, or pea soup would have been a better description, as I could barely lift them out of the little dish with a fork, really needed a spoon. I ordered a small side salad (extra £), but this was presented in a disgusting smelly metal bowl which had a really strong metallic, and slightly off, stale seafood smell. I've been a food technologist in fish products all my professional life and am very familiar with this old seafood smell. It is particularly persistent and difficult to remove from surfaces, equipment and metal utensils in particular, and any chef worth their salt should know this. I don't ever expect this particular stale smell to emanate from a fresh green salad... which was roughly chopped with a lot of stalky bits. The carafe of water had a strong chlorine /rotting vegetation smell, and was undrinkable. Although the bar area was visually more interesting, the dining room was boring, dull and had no atmosphere or ambience. The cutlery looked tired / well worn and possibly dirty, water glasses similar with no sparkle. Quality napkins though! The drum beat "music" pumped out on a never ending loop was quickly driving me insane, so I mentioned it to the couple who were the only other diners in the room ...and they also hated it, so a request was made for silence. Quickly delivered, followed by some applause, and a palpable feeling of calm ensued. Had a glass of wine and a ginger beer, both OK but bill £61 + , and they asked for gratuities on top. Pleasant waitress, but she didn't enquire if we enjoyed the meal. On a positive note, the dining seats were very comfortable, but that's about it! Certainly won't go back, as the chef (also the owner), has strange ideas about food, and a penchant for serving things uncooked, which I noted in several earlier one star reviews, with roast beef and other things being served almost completely raw, and no refunds given for inedibile or returned food. Decided to ignore the numerous bad reviews, and in the case of the prawns, thought I'd just go with the flow, but regretted it, and left feeling queasy, hungry and...

Been here a few times in the past & quite enjoyed it. But today was a different experience unfortunately, we arrived at 12:50 for a 1pm booking & I suppose there were a few tables filling up at that time (3 maybe 4 at most) but we never received our starter until 13:40 which I thought was quite excessive to say the least & at least one of our dishes had been put on another table & left with other customers. The young waiter then came back & apologised to the other customers for the inconvenience of his error & replaced the dish with their original order and headed back to the kitchen with 2 plates in his hands & stayed in there for about a minute or so & then proceeded to come out & present it to us. As we never seen anyone having to wait for a starter we’ve basically had to assume this as correct. Rather than cause a scene with the potential of waiting another 30 minutes we just carried on (Since we couldn’t be 100% certain). We then waited another half an hour for our main dish of 2 beef burgers which were quite tasteless to be honest so won’t be rushing back here anytime soon. So overall it took us over 2 hours just for lunch in a cold restaurant. Must advise your staff/waiters that these sort of errors will be the end of...

So happy to be able to come somewhere they are so willing to offer suuuuch tasty (off menu) alternatives with zero notice!!! They have a couple of vegan options on the menu and on my second visit in a short period of time the staff recognised me and were able to offer me something off the cuff so I could experience something different. I LOVE their butternut sqaush, pomegranate starter and would normally order the cauliflower main (10/10!) but this time wanted to try something different. I ordered their special soup of the day - roasted onion and cider - and they offered me a surprise main and OMFG!!! I got chanterelle mushroom and asparagus orzo which was absolutely delicious. Will continue to love coming to eat and drink here. The bar and waiting staff are all so lovely, always smiling and make us feel...

What a fantastic hidden gem! The Stack Restaurant and Bar delivered on every front. The cocktails were generously sized and surprisingly affordable—great value for the quality. The menu was packed with fresh fish options, all beautifully prepared. I started with the Cullen skink, which was rich and comforting, followed by the classic beer battered haddock and chips—crispy, golden, and perfectly cooked. This place is a real find, tucked away but absolutely worth the visit. Can’t wait to go back!

The scallops are to die for - the best I eat it. Every time I ordered fish is so tasty! I like the fact is the only place I said I want vegetables instead of any carbohydrates and the vegetables are cooked amazing. I just wait for next time. I even take away what was unfinished at our table - it was way too good to go to garbage. Please keep going to cook this amazing food guys!

Discovered this place while going for a walk. The menu looks amazing and I've to come with my family for a proper meal. We just enjoyed coffees on the outside decking area. The staff was lovely especially the lady who served us the coffees. Oh! And you get some lovely homemade tablets with your coffee. The menu is ala carte as well as fixed.
