Amazing small place with plenty of character and atmosphere. Husband and wife owners providing the very best hospitality they can give with such a shortage of staff in the area. Touring on motorbikes allowed us to camp on a small site opposite for a small fee even offered a room as a back up!! Evening meal and breakfast with a few drinks and a sample of the local whiskey. Richard has immense knowledge of the surrounding areas and further a field with appreciation of the local business given a real sense of community. Albeit he can be a little grumpy if you ask to use the loo and top up a water bottle š. Fully understand this business is a business and itās difficult in such remote areas. Canāt fault any of the facilities on site for camping just basic which to us was good. Whereas when I return will take up a room and enjoy some more local refreshments and atmosphere this great couple are working so hard to provide. Just hope will get to hear some of the local music and Richard playing the piano then. Thanks guys...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a gem of a place. The sign on the door stated reservations only, but upon asking they found us a table without a fuss and said that there may be a wait for food. The owner came over and stated the same but made us feel very welcome and was extremely friendly. We were on a family holiday in Inverness and had made a day trip over to the Isle of Skye, we stoppped here on the way back. The whole place is very clean and well decorated in a tasteful traditional Scottish theme, the artwork on the walls are all done by a local artist (the landlord gave us her details so we could enquire about prints) The food came out without a wait, I've waited longer in McDonalds to be fair! The starters were very good, although large portions. We had the Bhaji's, Haggis Pakora and Cullen Skink. The mains came out, Beef Bourguignon, Cheeseburger and Fish & Chips twice were all bought out without a huge delay, and were very good. The meals ended with liqueur coffees which was a spectaculer end to a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped here for lunch whilst motorcycle touring around Skye and the Applecorss area, stumbled apon this place to have a spot of lunch where I met the owner who was very friendly and informed me of thier campsite. After my lovely lunch I did the Applecross pass and returned to the Thisle in the evening to set up camp, have dinner and a couple of drinks. Some of the best fish and chips I have had in a while, the portion sizes were immense and reasonably priced for the area.
The campsite was very basic but very cheap and a lovely place to stay. I would definitely recommend just for the lovely owners and the atmosphere.
Great place to stop if your riding the Applecross path, wanting a nice a cheap place to camp or if your searching for some of the best fish and...
