A slither not a slice Twenty Nineteen

I was recommended the cafe by friends who are local to the area, so was keen to try. I ordered coffee and a 'slice' of chocolate cake. As I waited for my order, I noticed the food other people were served, and could see lovely baguettes etc being delivered to their tables, and whilst I didn't have one myself they looked delicious and I'd say reasonable value for money at around £9.00 +. With hindsight I wished I'd had a baguette rather than the cake served as it was very disappointing. In fact I'd say it was a slither not a slice and was a little tough around the edges. Based on 8" 2 tier sandwich cake, you'd normally get 15-20 portions, if they serve everyone the size of slice (about 1/3 of a normal standard piece of cake) I received for £4.25 they will almost certainly exceed 30 slithers and have done very nicely!

The service was friendly, though not overly speedy by comparison to the number of people eating etc, though I wasn't in a hurry so it didn't really matter, if you are in hurry or simply impatient it may well do. The cafe, allows for dogs outside, but not in the cafe, though unless you had checked before on the website etc there is no info on the doors informing you either way, given the post Covid everyone's got a dog era it's always good to know these things esp when it comes to outside table service and ordering.

Would I go back... possibly, but...

My friend and I visited Twenty Nineteen in Lossiemouth on Sunday 17 August 2025.

It was Our second visit…… we came back a second time as we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch the first time.

Unfortunately today was completely different. Firstly we waited 30 minutes for our lunch to arrive which was reasonably acceptable as it was busy. We ordered two coffees and only one arrived without sugar, I had to go inside to enquire for the second coffee, the cutlery was dirty.

Lunch finally arrived but the salad was knocked off the plate, it was replenished. We asked for water but none came.

After lunch two more coffees were ordered but no milk came. Once again I went inside and the waitress said she would bring some out to us….. none came so I went inside and asked again…… it was sitting on the counter. Three waitresses were huddled over the till and one other was cleaning tables.

My friend was ignored and left standing when she went in to the counter.

Not a very pleasant experience at all today. Not sure if we want to come back a third time. We are tolerant people but a lot of this could have been avoided…. even...

Was really disappointed. Under its old name Aroma it was fab and we went often.

However on this occasion my mum and I had been for breakfast, it wasn't busy and it was around 10.30 when we went so not exactly the start of the shift.

We waited close to an hour for scrambled eggs on toast and a simple breakfast (no special requests), by the time it had arrived we were almost out of tea and coffee and others around us who had come in later had been served and were eating (somewhat similar things to what we had ordered). If someone would have spoken to us to explain a delay this may have appeased the situation.

Having said that there have never been complaints about the food, its always up to scratch and amazing and the cakes are always beautiful but felt very let down at that time that we don't have plans to return anytime soon...

Whilst in Lossie , we thought we'd try on the recommendation of friends. The first time we went it was really good, the food superb and service great. Rated it high. A couple of days later which was the second visit, sadly not so good. We were the first customers in the door the lady guided us to the table, only to be moved 2 mins later with our toddler. Apparently this was the table used by regular customers... that's fine, understand but where was the reserved sign? Also why put us there in the first place, especially with a young one in a high chair. Fine to let go but what really got me was when went to order... We asked for pancakes for one of the kids, only to be told oh let me check as we never had yesterday?Check done and no pancakes. OK again, but don't you cook everything from scratch? If not, why advertise is this on your tables?

Arrived just after 10am. Appart from some workmen collecting carry out drinks & food, it was nice and quiet. This building is Wheelchair accessible, Disabled parking beside the door. Our order was taken promptly. Coffee and water were delivered promptly. Creamy mushroom & bacon soup (small) and cheese Scone. The soup was very pleasant, the scone was very nice too. My company had a full cooked breakfast, it was consumed with relish! Coffee was Gingerbread latte. Good. I did visit the accessible toilet, the seat is much lower than expected, but clean and pleanty of toilet rolls available. We returned and took some cakes home, the Orio cheesecake was light and yummy without being too sweet. The Almond & Cherry bake was lovely and light. The Staff were lovely and friendly. Will definitely be back.

Ate here for lunch on holiday in Lossiemouth. Be prepared to be stuffed! Great little cafe, the food is lovely. Big portion sizes too! We couldn't finish ours! Really good value for money. We were too full for dessert but were able to take some back with us to enjoy later. I've never seen a thicker piece of cheesecake in my life 😄. Would definitely recommend. Nice, friendly staff too. Update 24/03/25. Been here a few times now. The food is outstanding. Today we had soup and a sandwich. Delicious! Piping hot fabulous soup and the freshest bread ever with plenty of filling. Love it here.
