Dafter a visit to Lock Ness we were stuck trying lacklustre restaurants in Fort Augustus when we spotted this place a little drive away and in the middle of nowhere with a raft of great reviews. I’m happy to say that they were all absolutely justified.. We had no reservation but I would advise others to book ahead as we were extremely lucky to get a table. The staff squeezed us inn but were at capacity and turned others away and this was on a Tuesday evening.. Speaking of the staff, they were great. Very friendly, fast and nothing was a problem. The decor is quirky and very interesting. The food was excellent.
We had a little haggis stack for a starter each which was delicious and my wife ordered the 8 oz steak, potato mushroom and grilled tomatoes. I chose the Fish and chips and although my meal was lovely, I had instant food envy when the steak arrived and was enormous. No problems with the portions here. I thought the prices were very reasonable considering what we had and we are planning to return, booking a couple of nights at the next opportunity. The ‘Happy Chappy’ is a nice ale too. ...
Read moreWe spent 2 nights at this very cosy hotel. The room was suitable for what you need it for, very clean and they left a caramel wafer bar on our pillows. Me and my wife spent the day out and we only were in the hotel in the morning before we set off and around 6pm. The continental breakfast feels enough to fill up, but you can ask for warm food for extra. The dinner was absolutely fine, so delicious and the chef went the extra mile for my wife to make gluten free chicken Balmoral. The restaurant/bar just takes you in, you meet nice people, the staff is very good and friendly. One part of the hotel I really liked and that is the lounge for residents. Sadly the record player did not work, but there are books, table games and comfy seats. I recommend this accommodation as a base of operations if you do some exploring around Loch Ness or as a resting place to sleep and eat if you go further North. Thanks to all the staff for having us and accommodating my wife's strange gluten...
Read moreBeautiful little hotel restaurant with amazing vibes! Came here for their Sunday roast (even though it was a bit of a detour). Their pricing is decent given the amount of food you get (and where you are). We opted for their 3 course menu. The butternut squash soup with cumin was really delicious, but the pork samosas might have been a bit too greasy. The lamb and beef roasts were delicious, although a tad too dry. And the sticky toffee pudding was delicious and satisfying. The only slightly negative part was that—I think they had forgotten about our orders and—we waited for ~30 minutes for our entrees, which is fine. Once we checked with our server the food came out quickly. However, we were wrapping up dessert when they told us that we had to leave because of an upcoming reservation. Tbh we would have been out of there if the main course came out on time. Not a big deal though. Still, a total gem, and I am pretty sure you can’t find anything remotely as good in a...
