When I went into the weld bludell a waft of Euphoria came over me, "what is this place", I thought to mine self. The bar maids ask me "hello sir" I say hello. "What is your beverage of choice", I say "lager" pay the specified amount and drink the liquids presented to me.
I have an imaginary discussion with the bar woman
"My dear interlocutor, I invite you to envisage the real ale, not as a mere beverage, but as an embodiment of a form of ideological resistance. Yes, this might sound like an overstatement, but allow me to delve into the philosophical underpinnings of this argument.
Real ale, also known as cask ale, is a unique type of beer that ferments and matures in the cask from which it is served. It presents itself in a condition that is raw, unfiltered, and unpasteurized - much like the id, as Freud would refer to the deepest, most instinctual part of our psyche.
So, you see, the narrative of 'real ale' is counter to the larger, global narrative of homogenized, pasteurized, and filtered beers that dominate the capitalist market. It confronts the contemporary neoliberal paradox: an insatiable demand for individuality and authenticity, yet simultaneously enforcing conformity and standardization.
The real ale stands against the commodification and pasteurization of taste in the same way that the act of thinking stands against the commodification and pasteurization of thought in our capitalist society. Just like the philosophical thinker who resists the capitalist doctrine, the real ale represents the insistence on the "real", on the genuine, the unmodified.
Thus, when you consume real ale, you're not merely drinking a beer. You're participating in a symbolic act of resistance against the homogenizing forces of capitalism. You are asserting your freedom to choose something authentic, something real, and something deeply human in an increasingly mechanized world."

Ā Ā Ā Read moreMagnificent place for top quality food. I keep promising myself I'll pop in more often when I feel I need spoiling, and that's exactly what they do in The Welly, they spoil you rotten. I know Chef Martin has a special little recipe for his beautiful Eggs Mediterranean because there's a delightful blend of the sweet and the spicy, which is unfair really, because I'd like to try some of his other creations, but my mouth blurts out "scrambled egg with chorizo please" before my brain is in gear. Such is the excellence of his specially whipped eggs with the drizzled honey and the spicy Spanish sausages. Top geezer, Chef Martin, in fact, all the staff make you feel like a valued friend rather than just another customer, as some other places are prone to do. Hence my lovely morning chit chat with the beautiful young Rebecca, who always greets me with the most amazing smile and has a pot of tea in front of me almost as I walk in through the door. I really DO love my special trips to The Welly, and I think the special vibes rub off on the customers too, because everyone smiles and has a chat with you on the way in. It's a really friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere, a lot cheaper than most other places to boot. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere and great prices, what's not to like about my favourite local eaterie. Definitely gets my FIVE STAR (PLUS) Award, I'm going back on Sunday to try out the Sunday Roast Special, that looks amazing....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went for a meal to the Weld Blundell on a Saturday night, with a tapas menu available. The waiting staff were lovely, very kind, very helpful and welcoming. The food was nice enough, nothing spectacular, with no real stand out dishes or flavours, may of the tapas dishes tasting very similar. Our main disappointment was the loudness of the music. It seemed there was a live act in the bar side of the building, not the restaurant, however it was played over the speakers in the dining room incredibly loud, which in all honesty ruined our experience completely, to the point we finished eating quickly just to get out. Just a shame as the venue and the staff were lovely and we would have liked to stay a little longer. I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue on most evenings though, so take this with a...
