I visited the pub for a sunday lunch with family and altogether we were a party of six. When we requested a table for all of us we just pointed to two tables and asked to put them together ourselves. Having seated ourselves, we proceeded to order our drinks, starters and main meals. The starters were delivered relatively quickly as we had mostly ordered the soup (leek and potato soup) served with freshly baked bread. The bread was lovely and warm however, we were disappointed with the soup, it was too runny and did not have enough seasoning tasting too bland. The main meals turned out to be dis-satisfactory as well. Some of us had ordered the roast meal in which the meat was over cooked and thereby incredibly hard to chew. The grill whole trout was not served with any sauce and just plated up plainly with coleslaw, almost like an afterthought. When asked about the sauce, were were only given the tartar sauce as a choice. Lastly, the dessert. The vanilla cheesecake I ordered was almost warm as if it had been left out for hours. Overall, I would not recommend this pub to anyone hoping for a good sunday pub meal, especially for the price...
Read moreWe drove from the North Yorkshire Dales to South Derbyshire and we came across The Strines Inn just at the right moment as our energy levels were faltering .This place is set in one of the most beautiful parts of the Peak district with great views over Strines reservoir. We walked across the car park where peacocks were roaming freely and entered the pub to be met by a blazing open fire , whilst leaving bitterly cold winds outside! We only intended popping in for a quick drink and a snack , but the smell of food soon changed our minds. I had an outstanding game stew in a giant Yorkshire pudding & my girlfriend had a lovely burger with home made chips! We both polished off our food in no time! The staff were polite and the drinks were good too! Just what we needed to continue our journey, worth popping in if traveling...
