Restaurant Only: We didn't stay at the lodge.
#TLDR: The best dining experience I've had anywhere.
A week later, my wife and I are still talking about it. We even ate at a AA 3-Rosette restaurant with a similar tasting menu the following evening. Everything they prepared for us was excellent, but none of it as good as what we had at Edinbane Lodge. That's all I'll say about the other place. I just want to emphasize how perfectly presented everything we had from them was.
Edinbane's menu told a single story. Everything we ate that night was obtained locally; most within just a few miles and some from the grounds of the lodge. The food was "simple" in that none of the offerings contained more than a handful of ingredients, but those ingredients were used to perfection.
Our menu had 2 mains: Monkfish and Lamb.
I could write pages about our experience, but no one would want to read that much that hadn't already been.
One last example of simple made perfection: Celery sorbet. You read that right. It wasn't a bad autocorrect. Words won't do it justice. Imaging what those 2 words put together would taste like would at best be a disappointment. It was bright and clean. It was wonderful and was presented with their interpretation of "cheese and crackers." This is such an inadequate reduction of what was sitting on that plate that I expect the authorities to show up at my door as soon as I hit "post."
If you have any opportunity to visit this place before their wait list extends into the next decade, you owe it to yourself to go. It is not cheap, but it is underpriced for what you get. We will go back any time we're...

Really beautiful and well done in many aspects but they didn’t live up to their price point. We’ve eaten at many restaurants at this price point and above & have owned 8 restaurants over the years so it’s the little things on par for a high end experience. We enjoyed the technical, creative and aesthetic aspects of the food. The emphasis on local produce, except for the Australian truffles, was welcomed and reflected in the freshness of the ingredients. Highlights included the bbq mussels tasting, hake with smoked seaweed butter sauce, Brie & apple ‘donut’, and the ‘falasgair’ something like a soft oat biscuit topped with burned heather ice cream. Where it is mostly off target are ambience and service. The lodge setting is dark and somber. It could use some touches of light and colour to support the modern interpretations of traditional fare. The service staff were very pleasant, formally, traditionally dressed and slightly disjointed. For example, the tasting arrived before ordering our wine, it took 3 people to get an answer about a wine, the table wasn’t crumbed after the entrees, we had to ask for water after our first round was served, no waiter ever poured our wine for us during the dinner and then the finished bottle of wine was left on table. Finally, as much as we love Bruce Springsteen and the Spotify best of 80’s & 90’s rock & roll playlist, it still was a bit too high energy for the ‘lodge-modern’ ambience and £140 per person menu. Even with allowances for improvement in the ambience and service, we think the experience would be more suited to a £90-100 per person price. It’s all about managing....

Enjoyed the tasting menu for a birthday celebration. From the first moment we arrived and were greeted by staff to the moment we left the whole experience was simply outstanding. The service from all members of staff was flawless, they really made us feel special and took the time to explain every details of each course that was served to us.
I really don’t have words to describe the food, it was beyond outstanding which doesn’t even come close to doing it justice.
From the presentation and taste to the connection with Skye was really something very very special. Every single course was a mouth watering adventure of which we have never experienced before, it was simply delicious and stunning.
It is no exaggeration to say that Calum is a culinary genius. The food he presented is obviously borne from a true love of Skye ingredients but taken to a level of which is world class. I cannot stress enough the exceptional standard of food which Calum is producing.
As it was a birthday celebration we were also presented with a complimentary glass of champagne, birthday card from the team and a special birthday treat at the end of the meal. This was a lovely, thoughtful touch which just displays the exceptional service provided to guests.
This place is a must visit if you are on Skye. It is quite simply outstanding and the finest restaurant we have ever visited.
A huge thank you to Calum and the whole team for making my birthday one which I will never forget.
We will...
