We chose to drive to this place because the reviews seemed pretty good. The counter when you walk in the door is massively high and there seems some confusion as to who is doing what, despite the expectation that you wait to be seated. The staff is really friendly and helpful.
We had the soup of the day: Thai Chicken. It was delicious.
Then the Skye Venison Chilli Burger came out. We were offered extra cheese so we went with that. You'd expect the cheese to be melted on, but no, straight onto the burger were two slices of cheese cold from the fridge. Hilarious!! Who doesn't melt cheese onto a burger?!? The burger patty was flavoursome and kinda sweet, however where was the chilli? I questioned the staff because there was no spicy heat to the burger. The chef said the chilli is in the burger as he looked at me disdainfully from the kitchen (but that's chefs for you!), then I was presented with a small pot of Sweet Chilli Sauce, you know the kind that's all sugar and VERY mild chilli! That explained the sweetness of the burger. The chef would be better off to serve just a venison burger, without the 'chilli' label on it.
Nonetheless I recommend this place. Just melt the...
Read moreThe Galley Cafe was our savior on the Isle of Skye when our driver got a flat tire! We were staying in Inverness and were on a day trip in Skye when our driver popped a tire in a ditch and was told it would be at least a 90 minute wait. We cozied up in The Galley Cafe for at least 2 hours while we waited for the tired to be replaced. The staff were incredibly kind and did everything they could to help us in the situation, including alerting us when the repair truck arrived. We were a group of 5 and they didn't give us any trouble for taking up one of their biggest tables for so long. The food and tea was delicious, and not just because we were stuck there. They had full meal options including dinner, and several gluten free options which was a wonderful surprise for my partner and I who are both gluten free. The gluten free carrot cake was especially delicious. I also wasn't feeling great due to a GI disorder, and The Galley Cafe has 4 private toilets which was a godsend that day. I hope you find yourself at The Galley Cafe under better circumstances, but I am so glad our misfortune happened near...
Read moreThis place is weird, the boss tried everything to stop us dining or ordering anything from there.
First, it was not busy when we arrived. when we clearly communicated 4 adults and 2 children, we were given a table of 4 and we were not allowed to move over any empty chairs when there was a couple sitting on a table of four and suddenly all tables became reserved.
Secondly, we were offered to sit outside, however after we sat down, the waitress came over informed us her boss said no eating outside (from google comments we can see people posted pictures eating outside).
Finally, we were offered to do take away by the waitress, and again she came back said her boss said we can order takeaway but will take one hour.
We wasted 20 mins there and ended up feeling angry. We don’t understand what the boss behind the scene was trying to do.
Please avoid this place, it may ruin your holiday...
