Where can we begin?!
We decided to get married very last minute and after a working lunch at Provenance and a few spontaneous ideas - it was decided, this was our venue.
We worked with Steph, who was absolutely incredible at helping our vision come to life. Food was the priority for us, and we knew that Provenance would deliver. We got married in June, and it was lovely to have both inside and outside options available to us. We decided to marry outside under the stretch tent.
Once we had agreed our date, we were invited to a tasting to try out the sample menu. This was an incredible opportunity to experience the food and wine, and it was so delicious! Also, gave me an opportunity to try things I might never have selected (and ended up choosing instead)!
For the day, everything was set up for us, including the table layout (name places set), flowers (arranged by florist), drinks waiting for after the reception and background music (along with aisle song) all arranged for us.
We had the tent arranged for our guests in benches, and a floral arrangements at the end for decoration, this worked really well. We stuck outside (lucky with the weather) for post wedding drinks, and this made a great background for photos afterwards. There was also the little cocktail truck there for pre drinks for early guests or those wanting something else to drink.
This is where the canapes came out and was one of the highlights for us. Seeing the guests delight over the size and quality of these was so lovely. We were weirdly excited about watching everyone's face to see their reaction!
After this, we moved into the main restaurant (by the kitchen), where we had 3 long tables decorated with flowers and candles. There we had our 3 courses of absolutely incredible food.
We had speeches in this area (while the band set up), we then moved to the next section for dancing. They opened up the doors across the restaurant so people we inside and outside and it was such a lovely open atmosphere.
Whilst we were dancing, the chefs started on the flatbreads for the evening food, which turned out to be the talking point to this day. Often I will still get messages from friends like "do you remember the flatbreads at your wedding?!". Such a huge hit. I think people were just surprised by the entire selection of food being so high quality, tasty and ideal portion sizes (rather than generic small portioned wedding venue food).
We left the venue around 11-12pm after the most fantastic day.
We couldn't recommend Provenance enough for your special day and a huge thank you from us, Mr & Mrs Witt. You made our day perfect. THANK YOU! Can't wait to return for some Christmas...
Read moreOutstanding experience at Provenance last weekend. We'd been recommended to try it by some friends but hadn't had a suitable opportunity up until now. We live in the centre of Cambridge but Provenance is an easy enough drive being perched close to the M11, with my Son's plans to be at an event close by providing a perfect opportunity for a date evening for my wife and I.
We loved the space, and the restaurant was busy when we arrived on a Saturday evening with a cracking 'buzz' of atmosphere from the many tables occupied. We went 'all-in' with starters and mains, however we had to share a pud as by then the excellent food had rather done for us - it was plentiful. My wife had some superb Cambridge Asparagus which had been made into a fantastic plate with some Leek Ash, Rapeseed emulsion and parmesan (it really was terrific) and my opening round Burrata was excellent too. We followed with some Colne Valley Coal Fired Lamb (outstanding, and the square croquette accompanying it being particularly lamb'y and delicious) and a 60 Day Old Spot which we both agreed was probably the best Pork we'd ever tasted (shaded only by Iberico Presa but it was close!) which was adorned with a fabulous Charcuterie Sauce. The accompanying side of garlic/parsley fries were so good and showed some real care from the kitchen with every delicious fry covered in the advertised parsley and garlic rather than a little puddle dumped on top as you often see when others try to do 'posh' chips elsewhere. Dessert was a very competent lemon tart/marscapone which was a great end to a superb supper.
Drinks were of the highest quality - a great selection of mocktails for the driver (the virgin Mojito being splendidly well made) draught BrewBoard (crisp and cold) and a very decent Pinot Noir too. Coffee was punchy and strong and very enjoyable.
Everything was held together with excellent service from start to finish, with the young gentleman running front of house leading an engaged and happy team. A mild dietary intolerance was catered for with absolutely no issues whatsoever, and very professionally too. Overall a really good experience and one we will be happy to have again, hopefully quite soon!
Recommended and easily deserves five...
Read moreA few friends and I braved the cold and ate under the marquee here last night. As someone who's a bit sensitive to the pandemic, I felt safe; staff were masked and tables weren't jammed together, so there was enough space. Service was good; the staff were attentive yet chilled.
The food is what I'm dining out for, though, and this is what I chose:
Prawn linguine starter: light and buttery dish balanced well by the slight saltiness of the prawn and caper-combo. I initially thought the portion was a little small, but, I was really hungry when it came out and had to remind myself what a 'starter' was! In retrospect this was portioned well against the other courses.
Pork chop main: this was great. Seems this replaced a lamb option (according to the menu as of 08/05/21). Anyway, focus was put on the fat of the chop, resulting in a crispy rind and tasty (and fantastically-cooked) meat. The fresh grilled lemon plus garlic and (fresh thyme and something?) herb worked great with the tasty slab of pork. And what a slab this chop is; this is a healthy portion. The fresh fennel of the side dish was great. Cutting into the fennel, I initially thought it was overcooked, but, who am I, a fennel expert? It tasted great both by itself and with the pork. The potato was the weakest, but, its potato job is to support the pork, so, ultimately I didn't care!
Rice pudding. There are quite a few elements; the soft pudding, the crunch of the pumpkin seed and crumble (and biscuit), plus the chocolate+butterscotch sauce. If you like texture, this is a great choice. The pudding itself is not too creamy, meaning it works with the other elements and not against them. It was a cold evening so I was happy with this choice. Very decent portion size, too, meaning I was full and happy.
Basically, this was worth the price and worth braving the cold...
