Original review still left below. We came back here several weeks ago for valentines day, had the valentines set menu and every course was great. We chose the Fillet cut to share, the previous flat iron steak being one of the worst I've had this is most probably the best steak I've ever had. That particular cut gets thicker in places but they'd cooked it a perfect medium throughout the whole piece very fair play... Even my Mrs whos not keen on steak was fighting me for the last slices. Generous helpings of chips and onion rings on the side and a trio of different sauces. I'm hoping they offer this on the menu again at some point will come back for this. ORIGINAL REVIEW; Heard great things about this place so gave it a go yesterday. Lovely pub, fire was on and friendly locals. I think I should of stayed in the bar and had the fish finger sandwich in hindsight as the food wasn't great. Hit and miss. Was £80 for the 2 of us, 2 drinks, 2 starters 2 mains. Quite pricey. Baked camenbert was great but paper thin dry bread could of done with a lot more of it bit tight. Mrs had the pie, was great. She ate the whole thing but the flat iron steak underwhelming.... I don't think they seasoned it AT ALL. Then they cut it through the middle which I really insist you don't do. Ordered it medium but it was basically rare and plate was pooled with blood bit unpleasant. I could count the chips, I had 7. The peppercorn sauce was like water and tasted like cream.. Fish and chips and the burgers went past looked amazing I may come back and just keep it simple with a burger.

Visited August 2024, it's been a long long time since I last visited the beautiful village of Barrington, a short drive from Cambridge. This pub / restaurant has been on my list of places to visit since being renovated and brought into the Cambs Cuisine family. On a beautiful summers day, traveling through what feels like a quintessential English village and met by a classic thatched grand old pub in the heart of the village. Warmly treated by all the team there is a fabulous feel from the team before even taking a seat. Busy but not full this felt like a great time to eat and enjoy the food. Whitebait, halloumi fries to start, a bacon chop for me and a plate of Muscles for the good lady followed and to finish off a chocolate torte and raspberry & white chocolate bread and butter pudding. Simply put the food was amazing bang on the money - Thank you All the team we who serverd us were top class and a credit to the local brand that we know well - cambs cusine did our wedding catering back in 2015. Check out all their restaurants actroos the Cambridge area Great experience all round we will be back and I'd encourage anyone reading this to visit too. Thanks to all the team

A nice pub in the Cambs cuisine small chain. The pub building is beautiful and there is inside and outside seating and a conservatory eating area as well as the restaurant and bar. Menu changes seasonally and has specials (although I wasn't given the specials menu till dessert, I was told about them!). Two sections for mains, pub classics like beefburgers and fish & chips (the beefburger I saw being served was huge!). The other is a more avant garde selection. I enjoyed the gordal olives while my daughter tucked into veg sticks with cream cheese. We had to use a knife to deal with the cream cheese though, she couldn't dip it. I had beer glazed chicken which was tasty. My daughter had Southern Fried chicken, which despite asking was it peppery and being told no it wasn't actually was, which was a little disappointing (you could see the pepper in the coating and I tried it and it was definitely a little spicy, especially for young kids!). Chips were good though! Dessert definitely a highlight. Dark chocolate and Salted caramel tart was on point. Daughter enjoyed her ice cream. Very good selection of drinks of all kinds including not alcoholic.

A fantastic foody pub, that also caters to locals wanting a pint and those stopping in for a lite lunch.

The building has some real character to it. It's a classic wooden beamed thatch, and fits perfectly with the rows of thatch houses dotted along Barrington village green, which is the longest village green in the country. And of course, the giant oak tree out front in keeping with the name. It also has a large modern conservatory type extension to the rear, a good size car park, outdoor covered and uncovered seating and tables, and plenty of indoor seating and a nice but not huge bar. Families and kids welcome, as well as functions and larger bookings.

The food menu I'd describe as high end pub grub, but with a restaurant style twist, presentation, quality and service. We had appetizers, starters, mains and deserts, and weren't disappointed with any of it. The freshly baked still warm bread is lovely, the steaks are cooked to perfection, the hand cut chips are like mini roast potatoes, burgers are great, the sorbets were amazingly tasty (especially the elderflower), and the brownie and ice cream was great to. All of it was a cut above what you might typically associate with the phrase "pub grub".

Drinks wise they have a good selection of wines and ales, and a nice set of house offerings.

Price wise drinks are in keeping with most village pubs nearby, but the food is maybe a little more expensive, but worth it.

This is a VERY popular spot in summer and most of the year round, so I would recommend always reserving a table unless you are just stopping in for a pint.

During covid19 they also did take aways for a stint but believe this has stopped now.

Overall, definitely worth a visit and at its best in a sunny day when you can...
