Drum and Monkey — Restaurant in South Derbyshire

I went to see a band at the Drum and Monkey last night Saturday 29.01.23. The band were great and were really loud as usual and the pub was jumping and everyone was getting drunk and enjoying themselves. However there was a middle aged couple in there who sat near the front who had decided it was a good idea to take a young dog in with them. The band was really loud and I had to wear ear plugs so god knows how the poor dog was coping. It looked distressed at times and kept trying to hide behind its owner. I also witnessed the dogs tail getting trodden on as the crowd was jumping around and the lead singer of the band thought it was funny to scream out songs in the face of the dog. I tried to talk to the owners politely but they flatly ignored me. Totally unacceptable that the pub would allow a dog in there for a band night. I left as I was really upset...

Not great to be honest, we visited on a whim on a sunny Saturday of the bank holiday weekend and it wasn't exactly...a nice quiet place. Lots of kids running about screaming even round the bar, food wasn't available even though it was advertised and drinks and crisps were over priced I.e £1.50 for a normal size packet. Outside area looked nice but full of estate people so I assume it's just a local for them but past that not exactly a place I'd go back to. Tvs was playing BBC news but no sound. What I assume was the owner or manager was swearing behind the bar dispite the kids being in ear shot. They have an outside bar for kids selling sweets, ice creams, slushy drinks etc but I stood there for a good 10mins and there was not a member of staff in sight so gave up waiting. Visited for the first time since the refit. As we hopefully start to get back to "normal" we were hoping to make this our "local". It is nice inside, a massive improvement on a few years back. It was quiet, with only one other table in use. We had lunch and two of the three meals were beautiful. It's the first time in years that I've been out for a meal and the server did not come over and ask how our food was. The young lady collected the plates at the end. We mentioned one main was not good, and she gave no response. We asked if dogs were still allowed in and they're not, which is disappointing.
