We were so looking forward to dining at this Michelin star restaurant with a top Master Chef. However, from the beginning of our experience with Treby Arms, it was rocky. The day was rainy so we felt it was imperative to book a table. We struggled to book on the website and input the requested cc information. Upon our arrival, there was absolutely no trace of our reservation, fortunately, they could seat us. The wait staff was very pleasant and helpful. We chose the set menu. The green pea volute was delicious as was the white wine pairing but we had to wait almost an entire hour before the BlackSheep lamb main arrived. Sadly, not only were the portions tiny - even for lunch standards - but the Sous Vide cook of the lamb did not deliver. Also, we found the addition of the anchovies was a very strange and over powering flavour with the lamb. The sauce accompaniment was delightful. Regarding dessert, we had an interesting discussion with our server: the chocolate component was meant to be single origin but when queried we were informed that it was "multiple single origin chocolate". For the wine, our red wine was served in the same glass as the white had been! It seemed also, with the amount of wine served much better value could have been had by simply ordering a single...
Read moreMy wife and I visited the Treby Arms Saturday 11th. for our anniversary. The pub was so warm and welcoming and that wasn't just because a lovely fire was burning. Father and daughter sat at the bar with their little dog Bobby were really friendly, chatting to us, Bobby was the star of the show. Another couple who were sat just inside the door as we entered were also lovely and friendly periodically chatting to me, my wife and the waitress Abby as we compared meals so we could make an informed decision. A further couple from Plympton St Maurice sat behind us, again these were lovely and friendly talking to us, mainly about our animals. It was a really lovely evening so refreshing to meet such lovely people and making the night a real gem. The waitress we had was Abby, she is a real darling cheeky, chatty, funny and a great waitress know the menu and able to recommend/ comment on the dishes. The Treby Arms is somewhere Ive thought about going for sometime and just never got there, I know one thing I will definitely go again. The food was absolutely fabulous, compliments to the chef and team. Great location, super lovely and friendly people great food and service all leading to a really...
Read moreMembers of my family & I had lunch at the Treby today having eaten there about 4 years ago. We enjoyed the food on that occasion, and thought it may be a good idea to go today. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment.
On the plus side the wine was nice enough, as was the music, even the waitress was great, but oh dear the food. It was unbelievably bad, even describing it as mediocre was too much praise. We decided to forego the desert and had coffee, even that I didn’t drink. This disaster cost me over £150.
When I returned home I called my son who is a successful chef and restaurant proprietor of many years standing. His first questions was “ Dad did you tell them how bad you thought it was “ the answer was no. What could I have said, what could they have said or done ? Clearly many folk think it’s good enough, but we thought it was awful.
There are many fine eating establishments not too far from the Treby where one could have eaten great food for the same cost, next time I take out friends or family for lunch I will go to...
