Nice location with the added bonus of a farm shop with locally sourced and made items . The cafe was not overly busy and it looked like most patrons already had their food / drinks when we placed our order of two sandwiches and two coffees. Three waiting staff were serving. We were told the items would be brought to the table. After 15 minutes we still had not received the coffee nor sandwiches. We checked our receipt for the time we had ordered . Approached the counter to be greeted with a scowl , I saw two coffees on the counter ( not assuming they were for us ) and enquired if they would like me to wait to take our coffees to the table as it had been 15 minutes . It transpired the coffees were for us , the lady said she would bring them out , I declined saying as I was there , thank you but I was happy to take them myself. She then said to my astonishment “ it’s not been 15 minutes “ and let me take the coffees. I have been in the hospitality industry myself for over 40 years and feel these two staff need to work on their customer service skills . A polite apology for the waiting time would have sufficed , not a negative confrontational remark . The food in total took 35 minutes to be served , I dread to think how long a cooked item would have taken . That said the sandwiches were very good and the accompanying...
Read moreWe went for breakfast with our children and we ordered toast and chocolate spread for the children. It was £2.50 and I had expected a large slice of nice sourdough bread with some chocolate spread. The menu mentions sourdough with all the other breakfast options. When it arrived it was sliced supermarket type bread with a tiny sachet of Nutella. For £2.50! There were 2 slices of toast and the sachet of Nutella hardly was enough to cover one slice. When I politely asked for another sachet the waitress looked surprised. If you’re going to get away with charging those prices you really need to make it worth it. I could buy an entire loaf of bread and my own sachet (!) of Nutella for that price. I hate being ripped off and it seems these local cafes get away with it because they are few and far between in the south hams. The reviews for lunch look much more promising. If you want a decent breakfast option I’d look at Harbour House cafe in Kingsbridge or Fika cafe. I don’t think Mary Berry would be too happy with what...
Read moreDisappointed, service poor, food good but not as expected. Cafe was small and it was very tight around the tables inside. We sat down and went to order at till but were told to wait at table and someone will be over. After waiting ten minutes we could see others putting there orders in at till. In the end we went to till and the girl who said someone would be over, followed us back to table and took our order. We received our mediocre latte and drank it but no food arrived. We waited and waited and then heard someone say to new people there’s was a 25 minute wait for food. We were not told this. I now understand that food is cooked fresh so there may be a wait but no one told us this at the time. When the food arrived it was well presented, my husband enjoyed his burger but the chips were bits. The longest chip was an inch long! My croque was very dry and I didn’t expect it to be covered in mustard mayo. Hopefully this...
