It was a Sunday. We had visited friends nearby and were rather hungary and as we drove home we spotted this pub and decided to give it a go. It was packed and we were told it was fully booked, but after a good look at the reservations the very friendly member of staff found us a table, saying (rather apologetically) we'd only have 1½hours (which was plenty of time). We sat down and another very friendly member of staff took our drinks and food order. The atmosphere and decor was brilliant. I'm Very Big and have a big appetite, so I've become accustomed when eating at other pubs to feeling just as hungary when leaving. Not So Here !! We had all 3 courses and each was really tasty and perfectly cooked. As it was Sunday we decided to try the Roast Beef - OMG...each of the 3 slices of beef was like a large steak and there was not one single bit of fat or grizzle. There was loads of vegies, also perfectly cooked. The mixed Berry'n'apple Crumble we had for pudding was Fantastic - again, perfectly cooked. Throughout, the staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. As a Very Big man with a Big Appetite, I left this wonderful establishment feeling totally filled up with superb food. And on top of it, it is Very Reasonable Priced.... A rare thing these days....Substantial and beautifully cooked food at a Very Good and Reasonable price. I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND this pub for a fantastic feast. WE WILL CERTAINLY BE...
Read moreThe first time I ate here, I was very impressed with everything, so I decided to come back with another friend. Unfortunately the experience was very different, and I was extremely disappointed. The food and service began well, but when the desert was presented, the Crème Brulé, and tasted, it wasn't what I was accustomed to. Traditionally it should be fairly warm on the top. Well it wasn't, and it didn't taste so good. When I explained this to the waitress she said there wasn't anything the chef could do about it, so she asked if I would like anything else in its place. I thought that was nice, so asked for an Irish Coffee. When she served me my Coffee she told me that I should know, that I will be charged for the Crème Brulé. I said I wasn't happy about that, she said not to shoot the messenger... When the time came to pay the bill, the Manager declined to come to the table, that I should go to the bar to see him. When I did he was not very understanding of my view point, wanted to charge me for the Crème Brulé, when I refused he grumpily said he'd remove it and walked off, leaving the bar maid/waitress to continue with the bill. Whilst my friend and I were paying, the original waitress who had served us walked past, loudly saying ' table 11 thought the Crème Brulé was lovely'! Need I say more? I will certainly not be going back and will not recommend this pub to anyone else...
Read moreWe were taken by the positive reviews for this establishment so decided to go for a random Sunday dinner after visiting the nearby woods for a walk.
Positives: Ample parking / friendly staff. Starter mushrooms and bread was lovely.
Negatives: if you don't like veg the Sunday dinner probably isn't for you. It's very light on potatoes, meat is plentiful but a bit tough. Me and my partner ordered 2 meals but only one dish with some vegetables was supplied between us to share. If you look hard enough at the picture of my turkey dinner you can play spot the stuffing ball it's as small as the smallest potato. Cranberry sauce for your Sunday dinner sir? you need to ask for as it doesn't come on the plate despite being labelled as such on the menu. The place does get busy and unfortunately our drinks order was left behind a couple of times. We were seated by a noisy coffee machine which was very noisy and in near constant use. Sadly I am...
