We were fortunate to dine here for my partners birthday and had the 9 Course Tasting Menu with wine pairing which was exceptional.
Every dish stoked a conversation between us on the potential influence for the dish and the ingredients used, the food was beautiful and the wine pairing well matched. We were also very lucky to be served quite a few of the dishes by Mark Poynton himself which was a nice touch.
On other restaurant review websites some suggest the experience was too long and the atmosphere was lacking. The timings were as we would have expected for the serving of 9 courses - we arrived at 7pm and was finished up by 11pm - this felt ideal including a pre dinner aperitif and post dinner digestif/night cap.
As for the atmosphere we understood the lack of hype / advertising of this new venture by Mark Poynton has perhaps been deliberate to allow them time to test things out and find the right formula. I have no doubt there will be more of a marketing push in the near future to attract the custom once they feel they have the set up nailed. Diners certainly won't be disappointed. The restaurant wasn't full on the Friday evening we went but we were too engrossed in the food and wine to feel this had any negative impact on our experience.
We felt this was the best tasting experience we have had too date in the Norwich area and raises the bar on some of the longer standing establishments out there injecting something new and exciting to the Norwich food scene. We are looking forward to coming back...
Read moreBeautiful food, wonderful service and perfectly paired wine! It’s definitely one of the best (possibly THE best) places for fine dining around Norwich.
If you enjoy refined food then this is absolutely a must visit. We can’t believe that this restaurant has flown under our radar until now and we will absolutely be back. The price point is so reasonable, especially for the quality!
My husband and I visited last night for his birthday and had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. I am pescatarian and we were both able to have different tasting menus to cater to each of our diets. Each course and wine was explained to us perfectly, the chefs came and talked through most of the food and it’s clear they are passionate about what they do. The menu changes depending on what ingredients they have had foraged/delivered on the day and changes with the seasons which I think makes a visit here even more special.
The decor is perfect following some renovations and I loved that the seating meant that even on larger tables nobody would have to twist around to see what was coming or be leaned over to be served. It’s clear that lots of thought and consideration has been given to every aspect of the experience here.
Thank you Mark, Nick and chefs for such a wonderful evening. We can’t wait to...
Read moreA thoroughly enjoyable evening of delicious dishes And great wine. An impromptu dinner with friends last night resulted in a terrific find in Mark Poynton at Caister Hall. Each small dish packed full of flavours working in harmony to create taste explosions. The simply named courses, Oyster, bread, snacks belie the complexity of layered flavours and some very clever cooking. Textures, flavours and temperatures are expertly worked to give the diner a truly wonderful dining experience. Bravo to Mark and his team. I look forward to our next visit. And yes, we may even see you...
