The Boars Sunday 27th August 2017 - Lunch
A pretty pub ideally located within a beautiful village setting.
We drove past this pub/restaurant yesterday evening on our way back from a day out and noted how stunning it looked, we accessed the webpage and called to book a table for Sunday lunch last night.
A family of 7 we were welcomed and well catered for. The pub has many areas to it, outdoor seating, dining room & bar restaurant, with its up market modern chic character with a twist of comfy rustic shabby, it was warm, inviting and relaxed.
We booked for an early lunch at midday, seated straight away to a set table, including highchair which was requested, a mix of padded seating along the back and rustic chairs the other side, chunky tables give an elegant but solid feel.
The food was outstanding, a wide choice on the menu, which is just great, the food is valued on that of a middle level, approx £11/14 per meal, but well worth it, the kitchen staff and chef deserve the highest praise for creativity, taste & presentation, beautiful food, specials were avaliable too.
The menu comes in a newspaper format which is so creative and unique, a real funky element to the dining experience. The staff were very friendly and attentive, always close by to check and ask for extra drinks etc, but enough distance between to have the space to really enjoy dining.
The toilet facilities were clean and well maintained, didn't see a disabled toilet, the baby changing facility could be improved as it was just a changing mat on a console table in the ladies, atleast there was provision, however this could be vastly improved with a wall mounted facility if one of the two mirrors were to be taken down.
There were colouring sheets for the children, to which they could leave to be entered into a competition, our children were very excited to take part.
This pub has so much positive atmosphere, welcoming and warm, would most definately recommend a visit. The pub hosts many events and specials, such as Bank Holiday BBQ's. The pub was very popular and although busy didn't feel crowded.
Loved having Sunday lunch here!
A beautifully placed & idealic pub for locals and visitors alike, with customer service outstanding, food of a very high standard and quality, a much needed retreat from busy life, its a pub that you would continue to revisit for sure. The owners/managers have succcessfully designed/created an environment fused with relaxation and warmth, it gives the sense of being on holiday but with a home...
Read moreWe had heard that there was a recently opened coffee shop here. We like to check out any new ones in the area to see if they would be any good for our local cycling club to visit! We would have been there by 2.30 but there was a 10 mile diversion so it was 3 on the dot when we walked in! We were impressed with the lay out and roaring fire on a cool afternoon. We noticed there were two members of staff busy in the further part of the room so I asked if they had any cakes on display to which a young lady said "oh you want something to eat?" I said well just tea and cake. She replied that they'd all been put away in the cellar! I asked if they were about to close and the man said not really but they were setting it up for the wine bar so I said if it was a bother we'd go. It just seemed as if we were an inconvenience! So I looked at the menu and read the few options out to my husband and she was looking over my shoulder and said the ones she hadn't got so I just said one tea, one coffee and two scones please! She disappeared and the chap brought us our drinks then the scones - we usually ask for our scones to be warmed but i didn't dare ask! To be fair the drinks and scones were fine but we just felt rushed THEN as we were putting out coats on two women with children came in and were greeted and served by a much friendlier waitress and then as we got in the car another two ladies with children in pushchairs went in! So why had they put the cakes away? It says outside and on the menus that they open at 8 but they really need to put the closing time as well...
Read moreI have been to The Boars on numerous occasions and I will keep going back!
The Boars never lets me down. I entertain clients there, I have romantic dinners there and I take the family for a brilliant Sunday Lunch every now and then. I just love the design and atmosphere. Every room has a different feel, from the snug where you can eat with your dog after a bracing winter walk, through the agricultural bar where the locals drink and you can find the answer to every question you can think of and some you haven't! and on to the lounge bar and restaurant the main eating areas in my view exquisitely designed. Every time I go I try to spot the changes - a lamp here, a new book there, a new umbrella stand. It's a bit like the old spot the difference puzzles. What about the food? Well the menu isn't big and it isn't cheap but I have never found a menu where I couldn't find something to choose. If all else fails then choose the fantastic steaks. If you are not a meat eater then the vegetarian options are thoughtful and well executed. If you like spice then there is always one spicy dish on the menu. The desserts are simple and varied but always full of flavour and made in house.
But what is the best thing about The Boars. In my opinion it is their flexibility. Where do I want to eat? what do I want to eat? when do I want to eat? Every time I have asked a difficult question the answer has been...
