This is not a review of the hotel, we only used the Kite restaurant for an afternoon tea to celebrate a friends birthday. The initial welcome was fine and we were shown to a table by a waiter who didn't say anything to us. We were bought pot's of tea and coffee, again not a word. The stands with our food were delivered, again by the silent waiter. We were then left on our own. The food was very good but we soon required more tea. There was no one to be found, so my wife ventured into the kitchen where she found Andy, who was only too pleased to get us more boiled water, which was served with a cheerful smile. When we had finished a different waiter came to clear the table, he was a cheerful chap, who had some amusing ways. I think a bit more "service" would have been nice. Soggy unpleasant fish, frozen chips, sachet tartare sauce, cold mushy peas. Desert was brownie that was so burnt I couldn't break it with spoon. Starter was taken away before I had even finished it. I've had better meals for £10 at Witherspoon's and this was a £30 meal. The restaurant was quiet and it was Friday night so there is no excuse. When we arrived we were greated by pleasant and efficient staff and shown to our table. The dining room is nicely decorated in a semi - modern style and works well. The whole ambience is comfortable with a relax ed but formal feeling.
