13th December 2015: My wife and I booked a festive meal to take my parents, brother and Uncle for an early Christmas dinner, so took advantage of the advertised menu and pre booked with a £30 deposit weeks earlier in November.
On arrival I was initially interrogated by a less than friendly female host who raised doubt as to my reservation before seating us in a booth 'out of the way'.
The first waitress that came to us asked if we were ready to order before we advised we had already made food selections with the booking (as per rules of reservation)
A drinks order was placed which was received relatively quickly. On receipt of my pint of Peroni it was warm so I returned it asking for a replacement. I was advised shortly after that the refrigeration was faulty and was given a warm pint of San Miguel. Warm lager - cardinal sin!
Shortly after this our earlier interrogator came to the table with the waitress asking to see the deposit receipt which was duly provided.
About 20 minutes later the starters arrived and we were passed a bundle of knives, forks and napkins to sort out ourselves.
We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio which arrived in an ice bucket but was also room temperature and when raised with the waitress we were told "it came from the fridge". The wine was palatable after furnishing my glass with ice cubes from the table water.
An hour after we had arrived our main courses landed though it could not be served as the empty starter plates were still on the table.
We had run out of white wine so decided to order a bottle of red now as it was a better option to drink at room temp.
As the mains were served we were given one medium boat of gravy, insufficient for six and all the same for both beef and turkey dinners. The carrots were tough and the sprouts were under cooked. The Yorkshire pudding with the beef was over cooked and crispy.
After 30 minutes of having mains served, extra gravy arrived to supply two people who's dinner was dry and now going cold.
It was audible that the table behind ours also had issues, particularly trying to get hold of cutlery to eat their food.
Before mains were finished, dessert arrived but was initially rejected.
On finishing mains half of the guests plates were taken leaving a repeat issue on receipt of the next course as there was no room for the dishes on the table.
My wife was given a soup spoon to eat her dessert with and I can tell you it was not soup.
On finishing the meal I went to find the manager and observed a table of 12 reserved sat in 'open view' apparently having a great time also furnished with Christmas crackers and hats. Not the be all and end all but it's the details right?
The assistant manager named Ex was very amenable and took my complaint and offered discount on the bill and apologies. Accepted though that wasn't my goal - my family travelled 60 miles for the meal and to be frank it was embarrassing. Amateur hour!
I was also given free 'garlic pizza' vouchers but I certainly will not be setting foot inside the place again. I leave this review in the hope things will be put in place to improve the experience for...
Read moreI booked a table online for 1pm for 4 of us to celebrate my husband’s birthday. When we arrived no one came to meet us, there was a long queue at the bar with people waiting to order food and only one guy serving. After several minutes, a lady appeared behind the bar so I went up and told her I had a table booked expecting her to show us to a reserved table. She just said she would check in a minute so we continued to wait. Our guests were an elderly couple and the gentleman was struggling to stand for any length of time. The lady never returned but was busy taking food orders from the kitchen. After about 10 minutes I asked her if she had checked my booking and she had clearly forgotten so said she would do so. She returned a couple of minutes later and said to sit anywhere but didn’t offer to find us a table, so clearly there was no record of my booking! We eventually found somewhere and she then came to us and announced that there was an hour wait for food!! Why had we not been told this when we arrived? Needless to say we left and had to find somewhere else to eat. It was an embarrassing disaster from start to finish and we won’t be returning. They obviously had nowhere near enough staff on duty. We had received a leaflet through the door with an offer of 30% off main meals so I predicted it would be busy which is why I booked. Serious lack of communication, organisation and customer service resulting in very...
Read moreSuch a lovely perfect place only small issue but we didn’t mind the Drinks were missed for a little while due to they hadn’t realised the tickets had come through the online order machine I just asked if they’d realised they had our drinks order to be done they hadn’t and I know that the machines for online orders don’t ping to let you know they’ve been ordered. all good just have them a little nudge that we’d ordered them The food was amazing. Iv been other places where the burgers have been over cooked and are chewy and burned But the cook does the burgers and other food really well the cowboy burger I had was so tasty and still have the juice and wasn’t dry and cooked to perfection very yummy :) Safe pleasant I do how ever have one criticism they are talking to I assume regulars and not paying attention to any one standing at the bar and talking really loudly / laughing with each other while people stand at bar Otherwise. Will definitely be our new place for eating as the place we usually go to has gone very down hill food always cold there The bobbin mill is were we’ve really had a great couple times experience so far love it thanks so much and WILL be going again many times :) Such a nice pub and good atmosphere and very clean Staff quick to clear up finished plate...
