The Crown Inn — Restaurant in Southampton

There's an interesting dynamic here. The place was stone-dead over the summer holiday -- great for quiet nights out as a couple, but quiet enough to make us wonder how they stayed in business. Then the university term began, and now you can hardly get a table, even mid-week. There are always several good real ales on offer (HSB, Landlord, Ringwood Best (or is it 49er?), and something else) as well as Aspall and Stowford Press (and others) if you prefer cider. Food is roughly what you'd expect but it's good value, with generous portions, and there's a specials board that always has several more adventurous options. Staff are friendly. Food is served until 9:30pm -- some other places stop at nine. We've always managed to find a space in the car park. There's a log-effect gas fire at each end of the pub -- nice in the winter months. Background music is a bit haphazard -- I think the bar staff just play whatever they fancy -- but it's not too loud or intrusive. We had a lovely family meal here on 3/5/25. It was very quiet which was abit of a shame as this pub used to be so so busy. We had started and mains. The food was lovely and arrived hot which I love. I had the chilli this was amazing infact the best I have ever had in a pub the obly thing I could say is the rice to chilli ratio was not right although I made this work. If you like spicy this is amazing if not add the sour cream although spicy did not affect the taste and I like spice so it was perfect for me. Good value and the food was lovely. I would recommend and deffo be visiting again. We need to make this pub busy again or we will loose it. Staff were amazing nothing was too much trouble and really friendly and helpful. Got there today the 25th of October 2022 ordered something to eat why we was waiting to deside what to eat a man who I thought was the owner was rude when his black lab came over to me then we ordered are food all off us went for the all day brunch and payed to double it all up it took over an hour for it to come out to us when they wasn't even busy my daughter found a gray hair in her food and are food was missing certain bits on one off are plates.
