We were a walk in with no booking after being in the area and just wanting to find a pub nearby to grab some food. Whilst they couldn't seat us in the restaurant they gave us the open of sitting and being served in the bar. Which was fine with us and saved us having to find somewhere else.
The staff were all very friend and took our drinks order quickly, followed by our mains and deserts. The Sunday menu has a fixed price for 1,2 and 3 courses which I really liked, especially as I was there with two friends there is always the chance of the bill split game. If we had needed to do this it would be particularly easy with the fix prices.
The food came out and omg it was amazing, it's been a long time since I have had a proper home cooked roast like that. The turkey was moist and beautifully presented, the Yorkshire was just right and the mash potato was a nice touch. The gravy was proper gravy, full of flavour and the only thing that wasn't perfect but still lovely were the roast potatoes. They tasted excellent just not quite crisp enough for my tastes. Note the standard roasts come out on bike square plates and you might be fooled into thinking the serving looks a little light, it is not it is a good solid portion it's just the plates are really huge.
This was followed by a beautifully prepared deserts, often these days deserts can be a little over the top. And whilst being a massive chocolate fan they can leave you feeling a little sickly / they can be overly rich. I had the chocolate warm brownie and ice-cream with chocolate sauce, it was the perfect finisher excellent consistency a nice smooth sauce and just right. Sweet enough to know you have had desert, a good size portion again with the piece of brownie being a good 3 inches square. All whilst not being over the top and leaving you feeling a little over sickly.
All in all this is one of the best pub lunch I have had in a fair while and all for just £20 a head including drinks. Definitely...
Read moreOur family recently visited The Cock Inn in early December 2024 . The Cock has been mentioned by some of our friends as a place to try. We had been to a medical appointment and therefore booked a table in advance as we were running late . The man who took our booking was kind enough to say that if we arrived a little late that there would still be time for us to get a meal .
The Cock Inn is on the main road through Woodeaves . It is on the same side of the road as the route to Eccleshall from Newport. On turning off the road there is a tarmacked road ramp up to the main car park . The Cock has been updated recently and is a well presented eating establishment. From the upper car park it is easy to access the large main room .
We were greeted by a friendly waitress who took us to our table . The room appears to have about 18 tables . They are all well spaced out and have comfortable seating . The bar had 4 real ales available and the bar man was happy to give me a sample of one I had never had before . ( Castle Rock Reasons to be cheerful - pale slightly fruit tasting beer ) I had a half and my wife had half of Timothy Taylors Landlord - one of her favourite beers . Sadly, the quality of this was not very good , I think it had been served too early and so it needed more cellar time to develop its unique taste . I mentioned it to the staff and they were happy to exchange it for an alternative drink .
We ordered 3 light meals but found them rather lacking in flavour with good presentation but the taste not living up to the promise of the looks .
The Cock appears to be a calm and relaxed place for dining at Lunchtime and the staff are very kind . The food is not expensive but seems to lack a little in quality that could make it an...
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful bar / restaurant! Unfortunately, I didn’t take a pic of the food due to the company I was with. However, this is my second time coming here for food. All The portions of food are massive, so make sure you’ve got a big appetite or got plenty of room. Yesterday, we went for Sunday lunch. I had the honey & sesame chicken goujon for starters, which in all honestly wasn’t all that, I expect a bit more spice and seasoning to it. For the main meal I had the roast pork loin, which came with all the trimmings. The main was very filling and very nice. And for dessert I had the brownie which once again was spot on. The other roast look amazing. 3 course meal is around £20 and for what you get it was well worth it. First time trying bombardier on draft and that went down a treat. Presentation of the meals were as you’d expect. However, the table we sat at (for 5) was a bit cramped, but we a managed. Will definitely be going again, just be wary of the...
