We frequented The Morris Man one evening as I had heard extremely good things about the food.
Upon entering the pub, imagine my horror as I was greeted with what I can only describe as a menagerie of rowdy customers heavily intoxicated and producing a hell of a din.
Luckily, upon speaking to the bar staff, it became apparent that the restaurant was in another part of the pub. (I personally would advise that this be made more apparent to people who are there to eat, as it could potentially be off-putting to prospective customers).
Now, onto the food. My god.. the food.
Originally hailing from The Black Country, I was lucky that these 'Indian Grill' style pubs are plentiful and a staple of the local cuisine. Now a resident of North Staffordshire, I have strived to discover a place I can regularly visit for good Indian Food. After 4 years of searching, I have finally found it.
On the good recommendation, I wanted to sample the mixed grill and a curry. After ordering, the food was on our table within 10 minutes, piping hot, complemented by a plethora of sauces. The mixed grill was extremely tasty and probably in my top 3 of Indian mixed grills.
We had the 'Lamb Tawa Masala'.. and I am forever grateful to have ordered this. This curry is probably the best curry I have ever had outside of the 'Curry Triangle' of Birmingham in its heyday. The wife had to talk me out of storming into the kitchen like a crazed lunatic and demanding the recipe. Utterly astonishing.
I 100% recommend this restaurant, and 1000% recommend the Lamb Tawa Masala as a must try.

ย ย ย Read moreStumbled across this place whilst working away for a few days. At first I thought Iโd got the wrong place as I found myself at a local pub (with a large area behind for parking), but the restaurant is tagged on to the side of the pub. You can access it through the main bar or via its own separate door. I presume the restaurant was maybe the pubs function room at some point but is now a separate Indian restaurant?? For a Monday evening at about 6pm it was reasonably busy which made me think that locals must like the place (always a bonus!). I only wanted a takeaway and service was quick. There was a menu on the bar, and from what I could tell, the prices appeared to be the same for sit in as take away as it seemed to be the same menu that everyone else was using. (I could be wrong) Food tasted great (chicken jalfrezi, mushroom rice, keema naan) which I ate in my van before going to my accommodation. (Great working away from home!) I donโt live local so will possibly never visit again, but it is definitely worth a visit if youโre nearby and Iโll visit again if I ever find myself working away in...
ย ย ย Read moreNot having been to The Morris Man in many years, I have recently been twice in the space of a month. The pub is in two halves with casual Indian /Nepalese dining and a bar on one side and the other room being more of a traditional bar. The food served was good quality and well prepared. The service was friendly and pleasant
Having popped in again on a Friday evening for a drink, I noticed that all the dining tables were reserved, so it seems popular and an advanced booking might be advisable if you want to eat. The bar room is fine for a drink, once the juke box came on, it became difficult to hold a conversation as the music was excessively loud.
The owners have done a good job of making something a little bit more from a local pub. I like the idea of a pub and Indian restaurant combined. The food is good and the range of beers is adequate and the service friendly. A good if basic concept which is...
