What a great wee place After a long day at Alton Towers, a good feeding was needed. And what I love about being in England is you are never short of a good country pub, that is homely with a proper community spirit and right hearty local food and portions. We found this wee village near our hotel and this little pub and thankfully they squeezed us in without a booking. Full of locals all blethering to each other all knowing one another it was just lovely and cosey sitting people watching. Menu,as you would expect for a country pub dining experience all your good old classics on there. For starters, we had the creamy garlic mushrooms with crusty bread and the warm baked camembert with warm crusty bread and cranberry. Classics and just perfect. Mains as it was Allys birthday he went all out and had their mixed grill. All the meat is from a local butcher and his farm, the beef is native breed, por and lamb is free range. On the plate and might I add decent sizes of meat were, chicken, lamb chop, steak, gammon steak, lamb liver, kidney, black pudding, 2 Sausages, egg, mash, mushrooms, onions rings, tomato and we had veg on the side to share with our meal it was humongous. My main was woodland chicken, a chicken breast stuffed with black pudding and a sausage wrapped in bacon in a creamy mushroom sauce, was really tasty and opted for new potatoes with it. Portions in here were huge, prices were really really good. Service was really good all round a great wee experience Like I'm so impressed with the portion sizes in here and quality, we had 2 non alcoholic beer, two starters, my main, ally mixed grill ( which by the way his two hand over the plate still don't show the scale of how big it was) and might I add the mixed grill was only 2quid more for what we paid for 2 hot dogs, a wee chips n 1 juice at alton towers. YOU WILL NOT LEAVE HERE HUNGRY AND YOU WILL LEAVE VERY HAPPY

Excellent Sunday Roast today at the Marquis. No longer a carvery but absolutely superb. Decent portions, piping hot, superb selection of fresh vegetables. Both roasted Turkey and Roasted Beef cooked perfectly. Extra gravy and cauliflower cheese included. Reasonably priced. Staff very attentive, friendly and professional. Compliments to chef.

Lovely little local pub. We ate in the bar side as we had not prebooked (there is a restaurant side). The prices were so reasonable and we were made to feel really welcome. Our waitress (Leanne) was very good and we didn't have to wait for anything. The food was lovely and very filling! We will definitely be going back more often.

Sunday Carvery Review and an honest one to boot! It was fairly quiet with diners at the time of our visit. Service is well organised. When it comes to the food it's easier to say what was nice than wasn't. The good stuff which tasted fab was the turkey, cauli cheese, roast potatoes and roast carrots - virtually everything else was average I'm afraid, including the beef and gravy. The pork balls and Yorkie puds were poor. Peas were starting to get discoloured. The meat portion overall was a tad on the small side for a large plate. Verdict: not as good as the old carvery under the late Richard's careful stewardship which ended in July 2023, but still not awful. It seems that I was blocked on this venue's Facebook page because i wrote a review which was just an average rating. That is a sorry state of affairs. I'm only telling the truth as a Tripadvisor reviewer with 122 reviews...

Wow - 2nd time of visiting this pub for an evening meal and yet again not disappointed. Graham and his lovely team are so friendly and the service is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. Every time we’ve been I’ve tried something new and can’t wait to go back. Although early it was already bustling in the bar and several large groups eating and obviously having a brilliant time. You’re not rushed to finish and leave the table and, whilst there can be a small wait for food to arrive, you’re not rushed in between. Once you’re sat the girls fetch everything you need - even drinks. Thank you Iona and Harriet and all those behind the scenes to make this a comfortable and...
