We stayed at the hotel and booked the restaurant without much thought, given the location was perfect after a day of travel.
To start off, let me preface this whole review by saying that the management has recently changed, following their move to the Marriott Portfolio, so I'm assuming some logistical and staffing challenges are had at the moment.
The menu, as, seemingly, with all of Stratford, is heavily plagued with green oil and saffron sauce for the fish. On a separate point, I would centralise the menu, as I never quite understood the mix of pub classics with much more refined offerings.
The starters should have been fairly tame, but honestly, tomatoes for £8 and a very pointless crab tartlet, both with the green oil, were not the best beginning.
For the mains, I went for the fish and chips, which ended up being the highlight (store-bought tartar sauce notwithstanding) and my partner went for the hake with the saffron sauce. To be honest, by the speed with which our waiter replaced the hake, I'm guessing the original dish was grabbed off the pass without checking as I thought the fish tasted stale at best.
On a side note, seems the bar is not fully stocked at the moment, as all the wine that we wanted initially was not available. The lovely maitre d suggested something very drinkable instead.
Overall, nice atmosphere and very good service that just needs to be complemented with a structure in the kitchen and the hotel, which I'm sure will be coming soon after the transition...

The beef was a bit rare for me but was nice, I was unaware it would be served like this, do like mine with no red showing.
The food was well presented and tasty if small portions 3 small potatoes, then they are my favorite. Two adequate slices of Beef.
Small portion of tasty cauliflower cheese yummy, £6.80 for a glass of Rose wine.
The brownie dessert was very tasty and small.
Fantastic experience overall, larger portions would of been lovely due to the cost for four of us at £125.
However that did include discretionary extra charge for...
