Good afternoon spots fans and welcome back it's been a while since we last posted this has been in part to a number of external factors but hay ho they are all behind us and we are BaCk biGGer and better than 🔖 And this time you'll find this on the edge of the Cotswolds southwest england just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon the home of sheakspear in this quintessential english village called Broom..... yes I thought unusual name anyway i digress. We are staying a couple of days in an Airbnb here is the village which is an absolutely amazing airbnb that is for a separate review, on arrival at the airbnb the Host recommended two eateries the one right next door called "The Broom Hall" Well renonened for its steaks and the other just a 5 minute walkaway called "The Tavern" The host explain to that "The Tavern" had a Michelin-starred trained chef and that was it the good lady was sold the Mrs being a total food nut and having watched every serises and episode of MasterchefAustralia 🇩đŸ‡ș twice at least. So we ambled ourselves with the dog " Dog frindly restaurant ☆ number one "The Tavern" I am had a traditional look on the outside black and white Tudor style building not much has changed inside but it is very warm ma and inviting once through the door or there has been some trustful done modernisation on the outside in the form of a seating area and entertaining area. Once inside we made enquiries if they were still serving lunch that would late in the day around 3:30 to which they were more than accommodating and set us at a table in the bar area. The front of house staff are friendly and engaging and willing to help and believe in service is everything, After reviewing the menu the good lady opted for the Irish themed Irish toxtes yes that was a new one of me !! I being me decided to to play it Safe and try one of there hand rolled build your own stonebaked pizzas oh and were we both in for a treat !!! The food dutfuly arrived shortly after ordering and I have to say what a fantastic gastronomic experience it was? From the lightness of the pizza base that the good lady described as (as good if not better than any she had tried whilst working in Italy.... high praise) to the local sourced toppings it all resulting in being magnifico from the both of us. The good ladies dish is an Irish spin on bubble and squeak with an Irish Twist, Again this dish was beautifully presented full of flavour neither of us had ever had it before but would most definitely order it a gain. Neither of us are particularly big dessert lovers but I did see another table order an unusual dessert so i enquired what it was and propley ordered the Irish Key Lime Pie a new one for me. Good lady and I were not to be disappointed this is another little gem from this fine establishment. Our complements and appreciation to both the front of house staff the 2 Chefs and all who made this a most enjoyable meal, The ambiance is quaint and inviting this is a well-run and very reasonably priced local restaurant and all who work here are to be applauded, we will definitely be back. Keep up the good work one and all you are on to winner. Best regards Paul and Nicole

This gastropub dates back to the days of William Shakespeare but, having laid empty for some time, it was reopened by two chefs in 2012. Stopped by for drinks on a Saturday afternoon in February. Enjoyed the well-kept HPA but would have preferred a more traditional bar setting as all of the tables were setup for diners. There is a lovely outdoor area and also a marquee, and this clearly gives drinkers more options when the weather is warmer. Returned later that day as part of a much larger group for dinner. Despite the entire place being full of diners, service was efficient, attentive and very friendly. I was slightly disappointed with my main, the pesto tagliatelle carbonara, because the ‘added pulled chicken’ didn’t resemble its name and appeared to replace most of the vegetarian ingredients; overall a little bland and too stodgy. I did enjoy my mussels starter and everyone else was complimentary about their choices. Overall it was a very good experience but not quite worthy of a 5-star review.

Highly recommended Sunday roast! First timers here and we came on recommendation. It's obvious why! The pub was packed out and still they kept on coming. That did not stop service being a top priority. We didn't book, cos that's just how we roll, and despite the pub being packed out we asked if we could eat in the covered outside area, which was accommodated without issue. Despite apologies for the wait from the attentive, polite and well trained staff I wouldn't consider it a wait at all. The outside area was spaciously separated and would be cool enough in summer and despite a crazy downpour was plenty warm enough for us, with patio heaters available around the area should they be required. We will definitely be returning to sample some weekday lunchtime offerings and maybe a cheeky date night treat. Beautiful historic pub, just as we like them.

In summary good customer service when we received it, food order took a bit long to be taken. I am and have been a mystery diner for several years now, though this wasn't a visit arranged by my organisation.

We arrived a few minutes after our 13:30 booking and were promptly shown to our table. There wasn't more than one space available in the car park but this didn't seem to cause an issue for others. There's a check and trace QR code printed and placed on the table you first visit to be seated, and have to return to after eating/ drinking to pay. I scanned the code with a QR reader but it didn't appear to lead to a valid webpage URL. I can't be 100% that this is down to the code and not the app I use, though. I wasn't checked up on to see if I had completed it at all.

Most of the tables seemed to be occupied in our area alongside the car park (there seemed to be at least 3 different eating areas) and our table was one under a gazebo. Our drinks orders were taken immediately (no drinks menu was provided) but we waited another half an hour to have our meal order taken. The pub opened at 12, and by the time our orders were taken, around 14:00, they were out of pork for the Sunday roast option. This came as a surprise given they had opened 2 hours earlier and given the only other roast option was beef (no other option) we opted for a pizza, pulled pork nachos, and a steak burger.

It was a sunny but windy day, so as we were out of the sun we asked whether we could move to another vacant table nearby, that was not covered. The first and second staff member we asked never returned to us with a yes or a no, and the third did with a no. I suggested in response maybe shifting our gazebo slightly could work. He went away and came back to say that we could move tables. We had waited for 30 minutes for food, which arrived just as we were sitting down on what was the much better table.

My partner enjoyed her steak burger, and the triple cooked chips that came with it were very nice. I however didn't enjoy my pizza and my mum didn't enjoy her nachos, which weren't at all warm. They both seemed to use a cheap cheese, which didn't taste very nice and congealed quickly.

Our drinks tasted nice and were cold (different ciders and an ale) and the customer service we received, aside from the delays in having our food order taken, was good. Most staff were wearing masks and the tables were sufficiently far apart to maintain a reasonable distance to...

This is a fabulous little haven in a village a short drive away from Ragley Hall. Every time I visit I always receive excellent service, above excellent food (during lockdown they created a takeout menu which allowed me to have a fabulous meal for a special birthday). You’re always well taken care of at the Tavern, they go out of their way to help with various dietary needs. For medical reasons there’s foods I can’t eat, they’re very happy to remove items and swap for others and offer me plenty of alternatives to choose from (other places have either just taken off the items I can’t have or have offered only one substitute) not The Tavern, for example our latest visit last Sunday I opted for the Roasted Sirloin of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding Roast Potatoes, Cauliflower Cheese AND locally sourced vegetables (a feast in itself) enquiring what the vegetables were I realised 2 of them I couldn’t have medically, I didn’t fancy having an ambulance interrupting lunches in a quiet rural village!) I thought I’d get the offer of removing them but they asked me what vegetables I’d like and they’d see if chef had them - now that’s what you call service!! I’m not going to make an already thriving busy kitchen wait so I said what I could have from the vegetables and asked if I could have some garden peas which they did. On this occasion we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my mother in-laws birthday which I mentioned when I booked our tabled which lovely Kelly remembered and made plates for our deserts with chocolate inscribed “happy birthday/anniversary” such a special touch. Saying that everything they do seems to have their own special touch! Whether it’s Lunch, Dinner or a takeaway we’ll always be back (sorry breakfast is...
