Was so looking forward to eating here after reading rave reviews, but sadly it was a huge disappointment.
After finally failing with 4 attempts to get a drink of my choice, I settled for tap water. 0% Guinness please...no Elderflower please....no Lime & soda please....no Lager shandy please...no So the tap water was the final option,as I was driving and to save embarrassing the other members of our party waiting to order their drinks. After waiting for the drinks to arrive,we were then allowed to order our food.I ordered the 3 meat roast which consisted of 1 slice of pork,1slice of beef and then a chicken leg plonked on the top of it.......how bizarre! The other members of our party of 6 had the roast pork. Well....what a huge disappointment my 3 meat roast was. When I tucked into it expecting it to be piping, hot it was actually luke warm and the roast potatoes were totally overcooked leaving just a shriveled skin with no actual potato in them. For £23.50 I definitely expected better, but was sadly disappointed. Again.....I didn't make a fuss so as not to embarrass the other members of my party....especially after the drinks fiasco. When the bill came,I checked it and not only had we been charged £2 for a lime & soda I couldn't have £18.50 had been added for a service charge.....no drinks of choice,a luke warm bizarre main,I was absolutely disgusted and speechless to be honest. Oh and to top the visit.....I went to the toilet before our meal, managed to wash my hands with the last drop of soap out of the dispenser and then after an hour or so returning to the toilet just before leaving.....Still no soap.
I definitely didn't enjoy my visit, certainly couldn't recommend to other's and wouldn't ever return...Ì felt totally disappointed. I still can't understand how they can automatically add a service charge on the bill after all things considered I've been to other establishments where the bill's presented ànd the customer is told that "there is a discretionary service charge, that can be removed,if you wish" I think that would have saved everybody's embarrassment. UPDATE This review was an honest account of our visit from sunday 27th of October ....reposted after reading all the replies from the owner to the positive reviews that have been posted, while totally ignoring or addressing the genuine issues which I raised. It has only now prompted a very curt reply from the owner, which I find disappointing and very disrespectful to imply that my review is months old and therefore has no relevance. I think if any of my other reviews of other places are looked at.....you'd see 99 % of my reviews are positive and 5 star's awarded, but sadly not on...
Read morein the idyllic Gloucestershire village of Oakridge Lynch, The Butchers Arms is everything one hopes for in a classic Cotswold pub. With its honey-coloured stone walls, exposed beams, and cosy interior complete with roaring fires, it offers an atmosphere that is both rustic and refined. A delightful garden rounds out the setting, making it as charming in summer as it is in winter.
The food is the real highlight. With a menu built around locally sourced ingredients and produce from their own butchery, the dishes are both hearty and imaginative. The pork belly roast, in particular, is a standout — rich, tender, and perfectly executed. The kitchen is also notably flexible and accommodating, with the chef happy to cater to individual dietary needs when requested.
Service at The Butchers Arms is friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff go out of their way to ensure guests feel at home. It’s a family-friendly place too, with thoughtful touches like board games and colouring activities to keep younger visitors entertained.
In all, The Butchers Arms is a gem of a pub — combining traditional charm with top-notch food and excellent service. It’s no wonder it enjoys such consistently high praise. Whether you’re a local or just passing through the Cotswolds, it’s well...
Read moreWent for lunch today with friends at this recommended, quirky pub, it did not disappoint! Varied menu with fresh ingredients. Two of us chose from the 2 or 3 course menu. I had grilled hallumi with red pepper and aubergine slices, delicious, small fish, chips, minted mushy kind of peas and I believe, homemade tartar sauce. This arrived piping hot, plenty of it for a small portion and delicious. Dessert = morello cherry rule, still aflame, but don't blow it out too soon let it crystalise the sugar topping! These 3 courses only cost £18.50, incredible value for money. A further surprise was the current offer, that if 4 of you are eating off the menus, you get a further £10 off, but do check this. Fab pub food, hosts very friendly and helpful. We've booked again for Sunday lunch, offer won't work...
