Well I'm going to say the drive to this pub was lovely, This pub is a really lovely little village pub, Nice and old looking, It was booked for meals and on a Tuesday, They had music which was folk music, Lovely relaxing atmosphere loved it as soon as opened the door, Debbie and Kevin who run the pub are really lovely, Met them and this being our first visit they sat and chatted and made feel very welcome, And the food choices are brilliant, All home cooked and the food is amazing, So first time been and already booked to go back next week with partners parents, All the staff are lovely, It's so nice to go to a pub that is how used to be everyone friendly and chatting.. So will absolutely recommend and as said we are going back, It's worth a visit and the smell of open fire is like old times.. So having had two times here nice meals following our first visit we decided on Sunday 22/05/2022 to go out and go here for lunch we ordered a roast and chicken tikka masala so when it came out I couldn't believe how the tikka looked and smelt different it was a blob of greasy mess with 3 lumps of chicken dumped in it the skin was white and the chicken was pink I can usually eat it but I couldn't eat it, my partner messaged the owner who said would be dealt with, So tonight 08/06/2022 we decided to go again well the man owner didn't even acknowledge us and usually does my tikka was tepid and the nann bread was crunchy but worst of all my partners steak pie the meat was frozen and you could see the ice they did another and took meal off the bill but not satisfied at all with these couple of times, Very disappointed and won't...
Read moreOur group visited the Carpenters Arm for lunch today for the first time. It had a feeling reminiscent of Fawlty Towers where the establishment doesn't seem to want your custom.
Mr Fawlty was quick to make some sarky comments about Londoners not knowing what a "real" pub is like and to make little jokes at my friend's expense to make the locals laugh at her.
Ironically, none of the three who he spoke to are actually from London🤦🏽♂️
Manuel was a nice young chap who tried to help us with our lunch and sweets but Mr Fawlty kept undermining him.
We ordered steaks and mine was one of the worst I ever had, chewy and raw in the middle. I asked for medium rare but this was cold in the middle (see pics).
My Fawlty appeared towards the end of the meal to ask us how the steaks were but I didn't have time to reply before he swanned off to make jokes at some other faux londoners.
My friends' meals were decent so perhaps I just got a one off bad dish as other reviews are very positive.
Overall, we all felt very unwelcome and as if Mr Fawlty was trying to be the big bad village wolf. After the meal we got some of their old fashioned sweeties from the young man and Mr Fawlty appeared and we had conversation together...
Interestingly, without all the locals to play up to, he was quite...
Read moreVery warm welcome, excellent quality hearty food, great ales, fantastic service. We stopped for the night in our campervan for which they had a little reserved parking space so we could stay the night. It's a really proper English Pub in a very quiet village, it has a real local atmosphere but at the same time is very welcoming - Carl at the bar was very attentive, had a great sense of humour and really made us welcome. Ben was doing the food and did a fantastic job - I had mushroom soup (very tasty) followed by a proper steak pie, my wife had a vegetarian wellington which was also very tasty - also the gratin potatoes were excellent (very good vegetarian selection on the menu). Proper puddings too - a truly excellent home made treacle tart just like grandma used to make, also bread and butter pudding (not quite the best but still very satisfying). I'd really recommend heading off the main roads to this beautiful location for a very warm Cotswolds welcome and experience a...
