My fiancĂŠ and I stayed here last night. We arrived after a 4 hour motorbike ride to be told that food was not being served. FYI food stops at 3pm on a Sunday. Disappointing but not the end of the world. We were shown to our room (6) at the back Of the building. The room smelled bad on entry and was cold. The guy that showed us the room denied that he could smell anything but also said they were having issues with wet boards which hadnât dried yet? So make of that what you will. It both my mrs and I thought it stunk Of urine. We asked for another room but were told they were all taken. The rooms decor was shabby at best with lots of broken items which have either been ignored, bodge fixed or covered up. The carpet was covered in stains and one of the chairs in the room was also covered in stains. The pictures on the wall were crooked and broken. The room was covered in dust. The kettles pat testing certificate expired in 2015 and the kettle itself looked like it was last cleaned at around the same time. The toilet roll holder was hanging off. The toilet roll basket was covered in a thick layer of dust. The shower head was covered in dirt and lime scale and the bath didnât drain. The room and I suspect many of the others are on a very fast main road and the rooms do not have double glazing. There is a swing door on the hallway door opposite which bangs with the wind all night. We phoned reception twice in the morning to check on breakfast timings but when we went down at 9 we found the lobby locked and unmanned. Breakfast was the same miserable affair. Being a big fat bald biker Iâm easily pleased when it comes to a fry up having eaten out of filth wagons for years but unfortunately the ragged cots attempt was a cold and miserable affair. I think All the food must have been cooked at 6am and then placed in big pots under heat lamps for hours on end. The bacon, sausages, hash browns and beans were all cold by the time I sat down and tasted like budget rubbish.
So in conclusion. If you like to stay in a filthy cold room that stinks of piss, hasnât been cleaned for years and has a loud road outside which the locals race up and down all night long allowing no sleep whatsoever and you Like prison food then the ragged cot is the right place for you.    Read moreMary and I are experienced world travelers. We always try to find a local inn or bed and breakfast which we believe to be a locally owned and operated facility. When we travel we enjoy mixing in with the local residents to learn and experience their daily life. The Ragged Cot is just that. From the moment we walked in the front door we felt welcome and at ease. Greeted by Sam, the General Manager and the owner, Stuart, we knew right off weâd made the right decision. When we book a local lodge or B&B we expect the rooms to be clean, comfortable, en suite bath and some creature comforts: TV; coffee and/or tea service; bathroom essentials; moderate closet space. And indeed The Ragged Cot complies. Next on our expectation list is the food and beverage. It was not necessary to find anyplace else to eat. Beginning with a restaurant having two sides floor to ceiling windows looking out on to the nicely manicured yard to the cozy, dimly lit pub and bar nothing else was necessary. Regarding menu selections again, complete and varied. From a varied list of starters, to dinner selections representing the local area favorites and a desert menu leaving nothing out, each of our meals was delightful and delicious. Pairing đđđŁđđ¨ was a non issue as there were plenty from which to choose. The chef plates the dinner selections in a manner that visually said âdelicious.â And it was. Meal portions were more than plenty and prices were very much in line with expectations. Each staff member we met: Stuart; Sam; Cosmina; and Steph could not have been more welcoming and sincerely grateful for our choosing their Inn. So, if youâre the kind of travelers like us, and want to experience what I have just described then absolutely book your stay at The Ragged Cot. Itâs location is perfectly situated If your intent is to spend a few days simply enjoying the lovely Cotswolds in western England. If youâre looking for a room and dining experience you might find in a corporate hotel in the center of London, Paris or New York, then donât come here. But if youâre looking for a true western England country experience the Ragged Cot should be your #1 choice. We will return we hope more than once. David and Mary...
Read moreA real shame - we got engaged in this hotel back in May 2021, so I rebooked a stay in September 2023 as a wedding gift for my partner! The outside of the pub is gorgeous, so many places to sit & what theyâve done with the garden is beautiful! Unfortunately - we were really disappointed with the room! It was actually the same room we stayed in last time, but 2 years later you can really see the maintenance hasnât been kept up. There were huge stains all over the carpet, the bin was full when we arrived, there were stains by the kettle, scratches all over the headboard & water marks in the bathroom! The room was totally different to what we remembered and needed some serious TLC! We went into town for some dinner but returned at around 9.30pm to have a drink in the bar - the pub was totally dead apart from a member of staff eating dinner in the bar. We waited for about 10 mins to be served for a drink, where we asked for an espresso martini (it wasnât on the menu but a guy said it would be fine) and then waited a further 10 mins to be given the drink! They only had one martini glass & the other was served in a tumbler! It was awful - and turned out after it was just espresso & vodka, which we were charged ÂŁ23 for, we would have complained but there wasnât anyone to speak to. My partner did come back down to the bar after & ordered a glass of wine each when the bar lady asked if we liked our drinks & he explained we didnât - which we were then given a glass of wine on the house. For breakfast the next day, there was one lady on the hotel reception but apart from that, no one was doing breakfast service - we were never offered sauces etc & there was no one there topping up the juices etc! My husband asked for a glass of water which never came! A real shame as it was such a gem the first time we stayed, but we did feel it had gone downhill quite a lot! Unfortunately, we wonât be returning despite it having such a special place...
