Quite simply the worst pub/restaurant I have ever visited! Booked a dinner table for 4 and arrived 10 minutes early. Walked up to the bar: the one barman on duty – “pony-tailed Pete” - made no attempt to welcome us, so we went and stood next to the wait to be seated till. There was a sign saying “half an hour wait for food” – not a good start. A waitress – “tattooed Lyn” – came up to the till area and started working, but she made no eye contract, or any attempt at a welcome, or to say “I’ll be with you in a minute”: she just blanked us and carried on working. She eventually looked up and without any hint of a smile, seated us at a not too suitable table for us, so we moved. The menus were virtually thrown at us and Lyn vanished without taking a drinks order or making any attempt at looking after us. We went up to the bar and ordered 2 beers & 2 G&T’s: “we have got any lemon for the G&T’s” he said: really, at 7.55pm on a Saturday evening? Looking around at the other diners, some of whom looked distinctly unhappy with their fare, we quickly deceided that a disaster was on the cards, so we paid for our drinks, cancelled dinner and left. No attempt to find out what was wrong from the staff. If you want a warm welcome from charming staff who want to make your visit enjoyable, this an establishment well...
Read moreSome what disorganised when we visited. We have dined here a few times recently but my recent visit 25/6 was some what disappointing.. Starters ordered at 1710hrs didn’t show until 1740hrs. Then as we we’re waiting for our main course they bought somebody else order to our table. Drink service was slow, 10 minutes for a pint of rev James, glass of tonic water, and a pint of coke. I took the lighter bite option of Thai red curry, huge pile of curry and rice, water in the bottom of bowl from the rice, and the curry was not even showing a hint of spice, still had the taste but no spice at all. Dessert was also slow on arrival but it was only strawberries and cream so not to fussed. All in all we were disappointed as the Royal William is normally good for food and drink. The waiting staff seemed to look lost in what they were doing ( not normally like it). when the chef/ cook appeared he looked like he could have done with a good wash and shave. Black workwear look dirty/ or colourless, long grey pony tail that look untidy and wasn’t tied back enough ( hopefully it didn’t go in my food). Actual pub and toilets was clean and tidy, furniture was a bit worn but that’s to be expected. Sorry to say I won’t be back, left us feeling disappointed after such good service and food in...
Read moreSigns outside as you approach the entrance are helpful due to covid. But that was the only positive thing I can say. We sat in the garden area and 3 lots of customers sat down after us. The waitress came out several times but didn't take anyone's orders. When she eventually took orders she didn't ask who was next, she just took the order from the nearest table to her. She does this again when she nez came out to take the next order. Then another family sat down next to us. The waitress then went to take their order but they kindly informed her we were first. We ordered our drinks and asked if they were serving food and asked for a menu. 40 minutes later she brought the menu, we told her we were ready to order straight away but she asked if she could finish an order from another table and then she'd be back. She didn't come back. Long story short. Very poor service. I understand there are restrictions and its all new with covid but that's no excuse to have poor communication. We won't be...
