Always love a walk along the canal, especially on a bright sunny afternoon, and to pop into The Stables for a hot coffee or tea accompanied by a piece of cake. The banana 🍌 crumble cake is especially good. Always very clean and the staff are very pleasant. It's also very popular and busy, so pick your times carefully. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you visit. We've always enjoyed our visits. It's also dog friendly with bowls and the almost obligatory dog friendly ice cream. Our pooch certainly enjoyed hers and at £2.10 (Feb 2022) it's not going to break the bank either. Returned at the beginning of December 2022 on a chilly and wet afternoon, with our pooch. It was nice & warm when we walked in. The tables on the ground floor were taken so we made our way upstairs with our pooch energetically leading the way. My wife ordered our drinks, some fries and a sandwich then joined us at the comfy seating by the patios and the outside decking. Our food arrived promptly, only to be told dogs weren't allowed inside. This was really disappointing, our dog had clearly been seen when we arrived, so to be told when our food arrived that dogs were allowed outside only was very disappointing. It was cold and rain intermittent, so reluctantly we sat outside. Dogs are welcome outside apparently but not inside which is really disappointing. Having travelled around Spain, France and Italy for nearly 3 months earlier this year with our pooch, not one restaurant, bar or pizzeria saying that she wasn't welcome, inside or out, it was really disappointing & quite surprising.

Popped in for lunch. The kids food couldn't really fault, toasties were good and easy choice, but the chicken was some sort of pulled shredded chicken whxih was either re heated or straight from a packet. Coffee/latte was also average mor elite instant with bit of foam on top.. Maybe next time will get one of the special salads or something and a tea

Popped in for much much needed coffee and cake after a long walk along the Severn estuary. Coffee was excellent and lovely and hot, quite often cappuccino is lukewarm as the milk is not heated sufficiently. This was delicious hot. Good choice of delicious cakes. Situated on the Sharpness canal next to a swingbridge.

Overall it wasn't great, but it could be.

The location is great, and the decor. Staff also very friendly. Cakes are filling, sweet, and the sort you can't finish because you feel sick.

But.

We were a family of 3, including a toddler. Zero children's meals or options we could see. No basic "ham sandwich" or ability to make a kids lunch. So we opted for a sausage roll for our 2yo. This was clearly microwaved as when it arrived it was scalding hot and soggy. I told them it was for a child and they even asked if they wanted it from the heat tray, so why they then heated it to Lava I don't know.

Our toasties were okay, but not fancy bread or even lots of filling. Just, a toastie.

That being said, love the toys for the youngsters upstairs. Thank you!

Honestly the place is nice but it needs improvements.

Kids options. Get rid of the microwave. Better bread, if a toastie costs as much as that, it...

The Stables Café has a terrace upstairs and lots of indoor and outdoor seating areas. It gets it's name from what it used to be...... "the horse stables" for the horses that pulled/towed the canal boats/vessels up and down the canal..

There are beautiful views of the canal and surrounding pretty idyllic Saul junction area. Lots of boats, all sorts.....canal boats, cruisers, yachts and even a pirate boat...

Being such a beautiful day, an ice cream was a must! We decided on a Chocolate Banana and a Mango in cones and they were delicious.. We got a slice of Lardy cake and Millionaire's shortbread to take back to our canal boat for coffee and cake later on.. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we'll probably be back for maybe a spot of...
