What a lunch! The terrine was a masterpiece, the radishes were excellent, the anchovy dressing on the potatoes complimented the incredible breaded pork! The stew with a pastry lid (it’s not a pie) was delicious, the tart was very well made, but I’ve rushed through everything as there were two stars of the show. Star number 1: the coffee ice cream was on a different level! It was just perfect every bite was perfection like I just can’t stop thinking about it! Lush! Star number 2. The young lady with brown hair who looked after us! Wow, nothing was too much trouble service was efficient and friendly but not over the top, but every question we asked she knew the answer not once did she check with her manager or the kitchen! She talked us through the ingredients in the incredible pickles, she knew who baked the bread and how incredible their pizzas are, she was just ace! Thank you for an incredible lunch every aspect was top drawer

One early November morning, we decided to escape busy Berkshire to explore an area in the Cotswolds we had not been to before. We got chatting to a lady in a small shop in Painswick who recommended the Woolpack for lunch. This quaint stone pub turned out to be the most amazing find. The staff really knew their product and also produced some of it on an allotment nearby. The menu was so different and was the most interesting I have seen in years. The food and the service were superb with the staff loving the interest and the questions we were asking. Inside this little unassuming stone pub is a powerhouse of culinary diversity and excellence. I’m already planning a trip back to sit in that rustic restaurant and sample more dishes I have simply not eaten before. Thank you Woolpack. What a great experience run by such a wonderful group of people!!!

I perhaps was expecting more from the reviews online. We were seated in the snug, which as the name suggests is very small. We were next to a door and had people squeezing past us all meal. It’s an old inn, so part of the character… so I’ll let that one slide. The toilets are outside in an outhouse. They’re also very run down. Not a pleasant experience. The view is just ok. You can’t see much of the rolling hills. The church opposite is nice. The food itself was just ok. I had beef with the trimmings, but it was chewy and I had to leave half the meat. The roast potatoes were not crispy and slightly hard. Very disappointing. The plus points were the Yorkshire pudding and chocolate dessert. Both were very well done. Service was very good.

Visited the woolpack several years ago on one of the wettest cycle rides I’ve had to get a beer half way into a trip - and it’s such a lovely pub. Happened to be in the area and thought we would try the food. Firstly what a great place, nice friendly chat at the bar, great atmosphere, and no music, which is always a good sign. The ladies working the service were both absolutely delightful, friendly, chatty, and accommodating. Nothing on the menu was suitable for my partner who has a dairy allergy and doesn’t eat meat, but the kitchen were very happy to make adjustments to the things on the menu - so she ended up with a lovely cooked hake and white beans. I had the onglet, which although was nicely rare, as a result wasn’t warm enough or rested long enough, it lacked seasoning and a wet sauce. The greens weren’t really needed as they weren’t dressed and looked more of an addition than part of the dish. The meat itself and the chips were very tasty. For a starter I had the kidneys, which were very tasty, and would of been tempted by any of the starters as they looked great - the table next to us were audibly happy with everything. I think everything price wise was a both over for me, but being from the city I don’t know the prices around this area. Regardless five stars because it was great and would 100% come...

Went to this pub today. I am a carer and my client was looking forward to attending the pub as it was his local as a young man. It was both our birthdays, so I decided to take him there as a memory moment. As my client has Parkinson’s he hasn’t left home for months. We arrived with great expectations. No toilet facilities for the disabled whatsoever, had to use a bottle in the church ground opposite the pub. Very difficult to move around in the pub , the other patrons were lovely and made space for us. The waitress was friendly and helpful too. The starters of crab soup , mussels and pumpkin fritters were average. Our main course was very disappointing, my steak was medium rare as requested, but cold. The steak came with a few green lettuce leaves and thick cut chips not thin French fries as sold to us. My clients steak was medium, he said that it was tough. We ordered 2 expresso coffees and 2 latte coffees, one shot , on the side. The milk in both lattes were ice cold , so much so that the sugar cubes we used wouldn’t dissolve. I felt extremely bad , as my client was really looking forward to the whole experience. He did enjoy the company and ambience though. I would suggest that this pub advertises in bold , that there are no disabled facilities on...

Positives first... a lovely setting in a fine Cotswold valley and a cosy, 'village pub' atmosphere (especially on a damp, cold autumn lunchtime!). Staff were polite and friendly. Some good local ales. Sadly, though, some of the 1-star reviews contain truths. The food took a quite while to arrive and did not all come together. It was, frankly, disappointing when it did. Disappointing because it was so expensive for what was on the plate - quantity particularly. A modest roast beef dinner for £26; the one vegetarian option on offer - pumpkin and chick peas - £19; sausages and lentil mash for £18. A dessert of treacle tart and Jersey cream was a small spoonful of cream next to a slice of unheated tart - £9 (for which we were, initially, charged £9.50 in error). The lowest-priced glass of wine on the menu was £6.50. This is clearly a destination pub trading on the Slad/Laurie Lee label. It is charging high-end prices (in a well-heeled village?) for relatively small portions of average food, delivered rather slowly to the table. If you're visiting from London you may not be fazed and you may soak-in the atmosphere. The rest of us seek better service and...
