I went here for the first time with friends last Sunday and actually found it by accident as initially we went to another pub but didn't like the look of it so google what was nearby. From pulling into the car park you could see that the people here cared. The pub is well looked after and just oozes charm. I have mobility issues and although they do have some small steps the staff were great in aiding me. I ordered a bottled beer that wasn't quite cold but the staff offered to put it in the freezer to chill and bring it out to me. Now for the food, one friend is gluten free and often finds that so many places still don't offer this option The stables is definitely an exception to this and has a large selection of gluten free meals including making gluten free yorkshire puddings which delighted my friend. We all opted for the vegetarian sausages with thick onion gravy and that days vegetables and yorkshire pudding. Everything was hot, tasted fresh and even the small meal a friend asked for was a good size. The price also really surprised my as its such good value for money. The staff although were busy were friendly, kind and smiling and nothing was too much trouble. We were too full for a pudding but the ones other customers had looked really nice and nearly tempted us. Overall I highly recommend you check this place out if you are in the area and they also have rooms if you fancy a break away. You will not be...
Read moreWas in here 23/07/2017 for sunday lunch.
We booked a meal for 2 adults and 1 child for 3:45, we arrived at 3:44 and seated straight away and we never got asked if we would like a drink even though I was taken from the bar to be seated.
After 10 mins had passed I was ready to go to the bar when a waitress asked if we were ready to order our meals. I told her we had been waiting to order drinks so we ended up ordering drinks with our main course.
we ordered chicken nuggets for my fussy son and they came out straight away at 4:00pm our meals came out at 4:20 with my sons desert!!!
The 2 roast dinners that we were served had less than half a tablespoon of mash patato nearly three times less than the meal we had the week before. Every thing on the plate was freezing cold except the mushy peas and the yorkshire puddings were frozen heated or just defrosted I couldnt tell because it was all cold!!!!
I told the waitress about the mash and they brought more out for us and she was very sympathetic about the meal being cold.
We were at this place for sunday dinner the week before 16/07/2017 and it was very good food, proper home made puddings and hot.
For £11 sunday dinner in Sunderland you expect hot food and home made yorkshire puddings and not to eat your meal 20 minuts after someone else on your table.

Read moreMy partner called up at approximately 18:15 hours tonight and asked if there were any tables for the two of us plus our one year old child. We were told there were currently three tables and to head down.
We arrived at 18:30 hours. My partner stood in the pub being ignored by numerous members of staff who were quite clearly avoiding eye contact at all costs.
Other people were entering the pub and just helping themselves to tables.
My partner finally managed to ask someone if there was a table for us to be told to find his own. Once table was found there were no chairs again told “Find your own”
I don’t find this a very good service at all especially when we called up in advance and also had a one year with us.
When you go out for a meal you expected to be waited on and receive a level of service given that you’re spending your money in the establishment.
We will not be returning.
(Of note - Similar experience about 1 month ago but gave the benefit of the...
