Our visit to the Half Moon Pub in Windlesham was absolutely delightful! We had a group of four adults and three children, and this place catered to everyone's needs flawlessly.
Firstly, the Sunday roasts were simply outstanding. The portions were generous, and the food was cooked to perfection. The tender and succulent meat, along with the flavorful vegetables and crispy roast potatoes, made for an incredibly satisfying meal. It was evident that the kitchen staff takes great pride in their culinary creations.
To accompany our meal, we indulged in some refreshing beers, and we were pleasantly surprised by the wide selection available. The quality of the beers was top-notch, leaving us thoroughly impressed.
One of the highlights for the children was the playground. It was well-maintained and offered a safe and enjoyable space for the little ones to burn off some energy. The kids had an absolute blast while we relaxed and enjoyed our meals, knowing they were having fun.
The weather was on our side, and the pub's outdoor seating area provided a perfect spot to soak up the sun's rays. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance that added to the overall experience. The Half Moon Pub has clearly mastered the art of creating a pleasant and inviting environment for their patrons.
The service we received was exemplary. The staff members were friendly, accommodating, and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction throughout our visit. They were particularly attentive to the needs of the children, making the experience even more enjoyable for them.
In summary, the Half Moon Pub in Windlesham truly exceeded our expectations. The combination of delicious Sunday roasts, an impressive beer selection, a fantastic playground, great weather, and a welcoming atmosphere made for an unforgettable family outing. We wholeheartedly recommend this pub to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in a family-friendly setting. We cannot wait to return and create more wonderful memories at the...
Read moreWe have been to this pub now a handful of times and we've had some reasonable experiences but the food has never been great. We go because it is a beautiful location and it's great for a drink outside whilst the kids enjoy the play area. This week we went and we had the worst dining experience I've had in any restaurant or pub ever.
The ordering system via QR code only had about half of the options on the paper menu and doesn't include drinks so once I found a menu inside the pub we ordered. I ordered the tomato & vegan feta salad (£17) with a pint of prawns (£9). The salad was completely unwashed and full of grit. When it eventually came back out it was as if someone had just turned on the cold tap, poured out the grit and left a puddle of water/oil at the bottom of the bowl in which some soggy lettuce and some sorry olives sat miserably. I HAD to send it back again, it was inedible.
In the meantime I tried the 'pint of prawns'... They were completely unseasoned, no sauce, not even a drop of mayonnaise in sight and the prawns themselves were anaemic, had clearly been frozen as the consistency was like cold rubber and they sat atop some unseasoned shreds of lettuce. It was completely inedible and almost entirely unprepared.
I have to give the staff credit, they could see that the food was way below par and they did offer a full refund of the main meal along with a free drink. I swapped the pint of prawns for one of their scotch eggs which took 15 minutes to arrive.
This pub could be incredible, the location alone should attract enough foot fall to make this worthy of an entirely better experience but this visit alone was enough to put us off coming back here again. Terrible, woefully overpriced food, unkempt/shabby outdoor furniture and a distinct lack of care and attention overall was enough for us to say never again. Given that you can eat for same price range in several really good nearby independent pubs, if it is a quality dining experience with proper food and service you are after, This is not the...
Read moreWe decided to try The Half Moon pub after reading good reviews on the roasts. It was very mixed but I thought with the added bonus of friendly staff, it being a nearby location and a log fire.. let's give it a try. The staff were friendly, the pub itself was a quintessentially english country pub and we were looking forward to a roast after working a 12 hr shift. We asked for the food to arrive hot in temperature as we had read some reviews that mentioned the food usually comes out cold. Unfortunately the roast did not live up to standards. We both ordered the pork belly with crackling. The pork arrived with a gravy soaked layer of fat, no crackling which was a shame, it was barely warm. I asked the waiter if there was any crackling on any of the meat, he said sorry I'll be back. He returned with a small plate of crackling that did not look appetizing at all. I can say the glass of wine I had was very good, the roast potatoes, swede, cabbage, yorkshire pudding and 1 parsnip (the others looked boiled) was very good and enjoyable. The pork and cold gravy let the meal down. After our meal another waiter came over and asked if everything was ok, I explained to him that the pork had no crackling and the temperature of the food was barely warm. He said sorry, the meat usually comes out really well and we usually give a great service but unfortunately today you have received a mediocre service. I was quite taken aback by this, I thought some constructive feedback back may be appreciated but sadly it feel on deaf ears. We had a roast each, 1 pint of Aspall and one glass of red wine totalling to £62 which I think was extortionate for the service and food we received. We thought we would give it a try but won't...
